Job Goals: Provide quality school-based occupation therapy services to address the functional needs of an individual as they relate to sensory, motor, postural or emotional development, adaptive behavior and play and the performance of self-help skills. These services which includes but is not limited to assessment/evaluation, intervention/treatment, IEP planning and implementation, discharge planning, related documentation, and communication between teachers, teacher assistants, related service providers, and families. Qualifications: Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in Alabama. Three years of experience in a like position. Demonstrates knowledge of the federal and state education rules and regulations which impact an Occupational Therapist's role in providing services to students with disabilities. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may require. FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Special Education Coordinator Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old. Required Knowledge, skills and abilities : Knowledge of occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and Evidence based practice. Knowledge and understanding of the school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations. Commitment to collaboration and teaming and effectiveness in working within a professional learning community Adhere to the occupational therapy code of ethics Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with school personnel, families, and students. Have excellent time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. Possesses the physical and emotional ability to fulfil the contract period. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members. Ability to analyze tasks relative to areas of occupation, performance skills, activity demands, contexts, and student factors to implement the intervention plan. Essential Functions: Identify, screen, evaluate and reevaluate referred and placed students through the use of standardized and non-standardized tools that assist in identifying a student's current functional performance. Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals. Providing specialized occupational therapy techniques through individual and/or group sessions designed to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of the students. Manage intervention programs developed by the occupational therapist - carried out by teachers, parents, and other school personnel. Provide formal and informal in-service programs and/or resource materials for teachers, parents, appropriate school personnel, community and state agencies to assist with problem solving, program planning, and priority setting for students with disabilities. Establish and maintain an appropriate, confidential system of documentation for student referrals, record keeping, evaluation/reevaluation results, treatment progress and recommendations. Provide parents with suggestions for home techniques. Conferring with the classroom teachers as requested concerning any educational needs of the students receiving occupational therapy. Referring those students who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate school's personnel or community agencies. Completing progress reports for each student in the program. Supplying progress reports to school personnel, physicians, and parents as necessary and requested. This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools. Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30. Expected Employment: 187 days Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines. Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
