Kansas City, United States Management Consultants For The Arts Inc Full time

OPPORTUNITY Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep) is excited to welcome an innovative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial minded professional to serve as the company’s next Executive Director. Working in partnership with KCRep’s Artistic Director in a co-leadership relationship, the Executive Director will strengthen all operations by evaluating and implementing new systems and moving the company into a new era of independence and energy. This is a vital transformative moment as KCRep sunsets its longstanding affiliation agreement with the University of Missouri Kansas-City (UMKC). As the management lead for the organization, the Executive Director will work tirelessly to ensure that financial resources are clearly identified and secured for ambitious growth, including the organization’s relocation to a new purpose built building (or buildings) and that KCRep’s staff and Board understand how they will collectively contribute to greater brand expansion and significance within the region. With an eagerness to be a deeply connected leader, the Executive Director will thrive in bringing KCRep’s story to a wide and diverse audience, centering a welcoming spirit of inclusion in all outreach and communication. POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Executive Director serves as partner to KCRep’s Artistic Director and reports in co-leadership to the company’s Board of Directors. Top priorities for the Executive Director include: Oversee all administrative functions of the organization and ensure that clear goals are established and activated to ensure financial stability and growth. Lead, with the Artistic Director and Board Leadership, the design of a new facility (or facilities) and the fundraising efforts to support their acquisition and development. Evaluate systems, make improvements, and solidify any vulnerabilities in how KCRep’s business operations function. Take an active role in strategic fund development, building a strong network of individual, foundation, corporate, and government support. Within the framework of change management, lead KCRep’s evolution as it sunsets its affiliation agreement with UMKC and build a functional plan for new ways that the company will operate outside of that historic relationship. Lead a collaborative annual budgeting process and monitor financial performance against goals, always anticipating changes that need to be made well in advance of need. Promote a stronger brand awareness of KCRep as a premiere cultural leader within the region. Build trust by listening and engaging authentically with Staff, Board, artists, patrons, and supporters. Be a clear and active member of the Kansas City community, taking on an appropriate public presence in civic and cultural circles. QUALIFICATIONS While no one individual will likely possess all of these qualifications, the Search Committee is prioritizing these traits in its discernment of candidates: Experience leading an organization through change. Strong financial insight and experience working with budgets. Demonstrated talent for transformational fundraising. Knowledge of and interest in matters of non-profit governance and a desire to work as a strong partner to a volunteer Board of Directors. The desire and ability to thrive in co-leadership with KCRep’s Artistic Director. A strategic mindset; experience leading an organization toward the future and building a map for success. Humility and conscientiousness as a leader; someone who models integrity for the institution. Knowledge of and passion for the performing arts. A desire to engage deeply with Kansas City and an interest in how current events impact cultural planning. The ability to identify joy and opportunity, in even the most challenging of circumstances. COMPENSATION AND START DATE The annual salary range for the Executive Director role of Kansas City Repertory Theatre starts at $175,000 and includes a full benefit package commensurate with other organizations of its size. The company intends to make a hiring decision by the first quarter of 2025, with the selected candidate transitioning into the position shortly after that time. Kansas City Repertory Theatre is an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate based upon race, religion, color, national origin, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, reproductive health decisions, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, genetic information, political views or activity, or other applicable legally protected characteristics.
