Job Summary

Substitute Positions - On call as needed

DEFINITION:
Under the direction of an Assistant Principal, patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the well-being and safety of students, staff, and visitors during on- and off-campus activities; assure student compliance with school and District rules and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed below.

Please Note: Education code 38001.5 and 72330.5, Mandates that all campus security personnel possess a certificate of completion for the SB 390 (24-Hour) campus/school security training course.

Job Description / Essential Elements:

CAMPUS SECURITY

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of an Assistant Principal, patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the well-being and safety of students, staff and visitors during on- and off-campus activities; assure student compliance with school and District rules and procedures.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Patrol and supervise assigned areas of campus, assuring students are safe, orderly, and within supervised areas; assure non-students on campus are authorized visitors; monitor lunch areas, walkways, restrooms, parking lots and adjacent areas.

Enforce school and organizational rules, regulations and procedures; investigate and report unusual, suspicious or criminal activities; investigate and report instances of graffiti and vandalism; monitor the campus for drug activity and report to administrators; assist with discipline during narcotic drug or weapon searches.

Prevent, defuse, pacify and separate students in chaotic situations before they escalate (e.g., student conflicts and fights); identify members of gangs, crews or cliques and develop relationships with group members to prevent crime and violence on campus.

Monitor student behavior and activity during passing periods, detention and lunchtime; assure students arrive to class in a timely manner; assure students have proper permission slips outside of classrooms during instruction periods; assist with detentions and in-house suspensions.

Screen, escort and direct authorized visitors to desired destinations; provide general information and assistance; direct vehicle traffic as needed; escort delinquent students to and from administration offices; retrieve students as requested by administrators.

Communicate with students, administrators, faculty and staff concerning student behavior; report incidents involving students, personnel and the public to appropriate staff or administrator; provide information to and assist police in matters of illegal student activity.

Drive a vehicle to various sites to assist attendance verification technician to verify student residency within District boundaries.

Report safety, sanitary, fire hazards and maintenance and repair needs to appropriate authority.

Utilize and respond to calls on two-way radio; operate security carts, utility carts, metal detector and other campus safety equipment; operate a computer and assigned software.

Provide security for on campus and off campus special events including dances, field trips, sports and other activities as directed; set-up and assemble security equipment for events in designated areas; clean up security equipment following these events.

Maintain records related to student discipline, incidents, accidents and other assigned activities.

Respond to and provide assistance to staff during emergency situations as necessary; escort injured students to office.

OTHER DUTIES:

Participate in a variety of other activities including testifying in court, disaster preparation, providing assistance to students as needed and assisting students moving between campuses.

Collect attendance information from classrooms as assigned; deliver messages and information to classrooms.

Unlock and lock gates, doors and lockers as directed.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Maintain routine records related to assigned activities.

Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Observe health and safety regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above, and certificate of training for campus security personnel.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California driver's license.

Requirements / Qualifications
