Salary: $26.36 HourlyLocation : Stevens Point, WIJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: Welder/Fabricator/Mech 2024-02Department: StreetsOpening Date: 05/20/2024Summary of Job In support of the City's fleet maintenance section fabricating, welding, torching, electronic documentation of repairs/work, and repairing of all city vehicles and equipment will be compulsory. Substitution and assistance in other department responsibilities may be required when needed.Tasks Routinely Performed Ability to weld various materials by stick, wire, acetylene or other methods as needed. Ability to machine various materials with drill presses, lathes, saws, and other methods as needed. Ability to draw sketches used in fabricating of parts/materials as needed. Prepare work orders and documents work completed. Provide proper care for tools and equipment used. Attend service schools and other training. Conduct work in a safe manner and adheres to all safety requirements. Assist or substitute in other department responsibilities as required. A plow route may be assigned to this position. Qualifications Must have a valid CDL (commercial Drivers License) with air brake endorsements. High school diploma or GED required. Additional schooling in technical and/or undergraduate schooling desirable. Ability to demonstrate abilities and experience.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust be able to work adjusted hours to include evenings, nights, and weekends with minimal notice. Must be able to work in outdoor and indoor environmental conditions from extreme heat, rain, snow, humidity, to extreme cold. Must be able to accomplish service calls seven days a week. Must be able to bend, squat, and twist and occasionally lift 50-100 pounds and 20-50 pounds continuously 5 days a week. Must have no limitations that impair doing the responsibilities of the position with either left or right hands. Must have no limitations from exposure to lubricants, exhaust, and other products. Must have no limitations that restrict working at heights above 12 feet. Must have no limitations on seat belt use. Must be able to write legibly. The incumbent may be required to perform job related responsibilities other than those stated in this description.Essential Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the fabrication and maintenance of city equipment/vehicles and streets department repairs. Knowledge of driving and operation of all city equipment, and vehicles and buses. Ability to read/write and follow instructions. Ability to read and understand maintenance/parts manuals. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Knowledge of the city work order procedures and documentation of maintenance. Thorough knowledge of safety procedures involved with the repairs.
