Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, serves as an in-house Insurance Customer Service Agent responsible for customer service of property and casualty insurance products. Working with all insurance staff in fulfilling any types of insurance tractions including processing, servicing, communications, follow-ups, and billing. Is responsible for contact with customers and servicing insurance products.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for servicing property and casualty insurance customers. Assist in developing relationships by providing excellent customer care service.
  • Receives and records all customer information necessary to properly take care of, but not limited to; homeowners, personal liability, automobile, inland marine, motor homes, and other personal lines and businessowners policies. Enter all such information in the agency software platform (EZLynx) and on secure computers and terminals with use of VPN when needed.
  • All needed billing activities with relation to customer service such as, but not limited to; taking payments, handling late payments, reinstatements, contacting customers as needed, and general carrier contact per billing issues.
  • Retention and claim activities. Works to effectively keep insureds on the books by providing retention measures to remarket policies prior to renewal. Re-quotes as needed and works with any appointed Sales Agent if needed. Uses tools with the rater to aid in function and proactively works list before time expires. Helps with claim process and contacting insureds for service needs.
  • Handles policy service needs such as, but not limited to; proof of insurance requests, policy changes, follow-up for e-sign documents, mailing out of documents for signatures when needed. Certain carriers require more manual processes such as mailing of renewals, this too is a function of customer service.
  • Aids in underwriting process when needed. Reviewing carrier issues or questions or verifying incorrect information if found in conflict to actual property. Inspection follow-ups, grades, and other needed documentation follow-ups. Any lose ends service or documentation needed for new policies.
  • Handles in-bound service calls for policyholders. Addition and removal of autos, change in lienholders, etc. Assist in document uploading to Guardian collateral protection from both internal and external insurance companies.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, licensing requirements and maintenances, including but not limited to; Bank Secrecy Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge and Skills

Experience
  • Six months to two years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.


Education/Certifications/Licenses

A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school. Insurance course of study and good standing State of Alabama license.

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.

Other Skills

Must maintain appropriate insurance licensing.

Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics.
