JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of Director of Vision Services, the Staff Optometrist is responsible for providing exemplary comprehensive eye care consistent with accepted professional standards. The Staff Optometrist will participate in a team-based approach to care in the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). Participates in activities related to quality improvement.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Provide comprehensive eye care. Care includes routine vision examinations and screenings, interpretation of diagnostic tests, treatment/management of ocular disease, fitting of contact lenses in a diverse patient population.

2. Maintain complete and accurate patient records utilizing an electronic health record system. Complete charts in a timely manner in accordance with company policy.

3. Adheres to coding and billing guidelines and regulations.

4. Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of department clinical policies, procedures, and protocols as needed to achieve GLBHC goals and objectives.

5. Monitors and assists with the development and training of essential support staff such as Optometric Technicians and Opticians.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. Education:
Must have and O.D. degree from an accredited institution and be able to produce evidence of such. Diplomate of American Board of Optometry, fellowship, and/or residency certification preferred.
2. Licensure:
Must be licensed to practice optometry in the State of Michigan and active DPA and TPA certifications.
3. Experience:
Knowledge of current practice patterns and ability to independently practice within current standards of care, including making appropriate referral for care of services when needed. Experience working within FQHC setting preferred.
4. Skills:
Clear and professional communication skills. Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions. Ability to work with limited supervision. Accept and utilize criticism when given. Organizational and technical skills
5. Interpersonal Skills:
Highly developed interpersonal skills to work with patients, peers, support staff, and clinical leadership
6. Physical Effort:
Ability to consistently stand, sit, and walk throughout the entirety of a workday. Lift less than 25 pounds on occasion
7. Hours:
Full-time; flexible and varied
8. Travel:
Travel may be required to attend pertinent conferences; with travel, lodging, and living costs reimbursed at the existing rate of the corporation. Reimbursement for expenses will occur in accordance of GLBHC policy.
