Job Description

As a result, unlike many other OEM or supplier organizations, Garrett Advancing Motion has visibility across a broad range of OEM's and Tier 1 suppliers.

The Garrett Advancing Motion (GTX) Fuel Cell Product Group develops new products for the automotive industry that will have lasting impacts on vehicle performance and hydrogen economy. We are expanding our team at our Torrance, California facility in support of launching our next-generation fuel cell compressor into production. A Senior Development Engineer is needed to assist in the design and industrialization of this product. Work includes end to end design to production, including direct communication with the customer and cross-functional internal teams. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing technology in the automotive market at a well established company in the industry.

The successful candidate will have experience launching new products into production and be comfortable in a fast-paced global environment. This person will bring experience in turbomachinery and/or electric motors that wants to help grow the Fuel Cell market and Garrett's competitive position in it.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure robust product implementation in the customer vehicle through direct customer engagement.
  • Coordinate activities with design (2D/3D), simulation (CFD, FEA, etc.), manufacturing, and suppliers to create production viable components.
  • Define FMEA and execute DVP&R by preparing prototype hardware, testing, analysis, and summary.
  • Support development of process documents (manufacturing, lab, design, etc.) as needed to ensure lessons learned are captured.
  • Drive field or launch issue resolution process using root cause analysis tools, document it by appropriate way (8D, 5WHY, Ishikawa, Knowledge Card, etc.).
  • Managing product at customer (awareness of product level system specs/safety targets, leading product deployment/diagnosis, identifying RCA/issue reporting.
  • Generate Value Engineering ideas contributing to cost reduction of the product in terms of design, materials and processes.
  • Persist on compliance with budget and resources allocated via AOP process.
  • Initiate and execute benchmarking activity related to this market.
  • Reports back through the GBE and the Domains any major gaps in simulation tools, knowledge gaps and product gaps to meet new performance, reliability, and cost targets for future development.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or other related engineering discipline.
  • At least 5-8 years of experience with developing and/or launching products in the automotive or similar industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills for internal and external communication.
  • 10-20% travel to manufacturing and/or customer sights.
  • Team player, growth, and customer focus.
Preferred Experience or Capabilities:
  • Experience with Fuel Cell systems.
  • Experience in turbomachinery, mechanical design, testing.
  • Experience in product deployment at customers.
  • Experience in high speed electric motors and hydrodynamic bearings.
  • Experience with casting, machining, and assembly of hardware.
  • Experience with FEA and/or CFD simulation tools.
  • Experience with 3D design tools.
  • CAN tool bus proficiency in Vector CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe.
  • Eager to learn and acquire new skills, new capabilities.
  • Six Sigma GB certification.

Pay Range

The salary range for this role is between $130,000 and $155,000.

*Note that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, education, training, and/or experience.
