**POSITION SUMMARY**

The Lead Server will be responsible for assisting management with the dining room service operations and implementing the policies designed to achieve guest satisfaction consistent with the mission and standards of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). The Lead Server acts as a point of contact between the manager and dining room staff, while also maintaining the highest levels of guest satisfaction and upholding the CIA standards of excellence.

**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES**

* Assists Dining Room Manager during scheduled shifts by leading restaurant service staff while also acting as a dining room server, including opening and closing checklists/side work.

* Assists the management team with hiring, training and evaluating the performance of restaurant service staff. Provides instruction/training to staff on POS/ MICROS.

* Assists with preparation for, and presentation of, daily service meetings/ line ups. Assists in opening and closing supervision.

* Cultivates staff food and wine appreciation, sales techniques and service style through individual coaching and counseling on and off the floor. Executes team building within the Copia service staff. Engages with the culinary team to have a full understanding of the menu and concept and pass that knowledge on to dining room staff.

* Assists Dining Room Manager with identifying staff shifts accordingly to achieve target labor cost as a percentage of sales while achieving guest satisfaction. Monitors the staffing schedule during shift in conjunction with the Dining Room Manager, proactively ensuring full coverage by service staff, and that the schedule reflects the actual volume of business anticipated. Advises the Dining Room Manager in making appropriate changes to reduce labor costs as necessary.

* Fosters relationships with restaurant guests, especially VIPs, vintners, regulars, and locals.

* Responds to guest needs and complaints when appropriate and immediately communicate to the Dining Room Manager.

* Assists Dining Room Manager with regular inventories of all Dining Room assets

* Implements and maintains standards of hospitality, scheduling, and communications as directed by the Dining Room Manager during scheduled shifts.

* Assists guests by anticipating their needs while they are in the restaurant and introducing them to all of the food and beverage programs that we have to offer.

* Maintains cleanliness and organization of work-stations.

* Completes opening and closing side work as assigned with the goal of contributing to an organized, well-prepared work environment.

* Ensures each and every table is maintained during the dining experience according to standard.

* Closing the guest experience by handling cash and credit card transactions accurately.

* Any and all other duties as assigned.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

Education

* High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience

* Minimum of three (3) years of Service Experience in an upscale dining environment.

Licenses / Certifications:

* TIPS responsible alcohol service certification, or equivalent or ability to acquire.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**

* Demonstrated supervisory skills in an upscale dining environment.

* Two (2) years of FOH experience in a high-volume restaurant including the direct supervision of employees.

**REQUIRED SKILLS**

* Knowledge of food, including menu language & culinary preparations. Maintains a strong food and beverage knowledge base in an effort to provide the best possible guest service experience.

* Working knowledge of restaurant POS computer systems.

* Demonstrated qualities of hospitality.

* Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

* Demonstrated ability to show a high level of service responsiveness to customers.

* Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.

* Highly organized, attentive to detail, accurate and efficient.

* Able to work well within a team.

* Punctual and dependable.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

* Ability to frequently lift and carry 30 lbs.

* Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 lbs. with assistance.

* Ability to stand and work for extended periods of time during customary service hours.

* Ability to work in an outdoor environment with varying temperatures, including temperatures above 100 F.
