Job Description- Lead Accountant
Innovative and long-standing northwest Washington engineering and consulting firm seeks an experienced senior/lead accountant to help manage financial operations for our growing small business. The ideal candidate will have proven industry hands-on experience as a corporate accountant, with strong communication skills in a fast-paced environment. The role requires aptitude in short and long-term budgeting, AP, AR, payroll, and financial reporting. You may be asked to produce financial-status reports for senior management to help improve operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth in a small business environment. The position may also require managing a small staff of experienced accounting and HR professionals. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
·
Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP and FAR standards and regulatory requirements as well as the overview of private contributions, loans, and government contracts and wage requirements
·
Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
·
Helping management establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis
·
Produce timely and accurate financial statements for use by internal and external parties.
·
Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation
·
Manage and prepare payroll, billing and tax documentation preparation
·
Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow
·
Oversee and support
accounting/administration
team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
·
Assist with daily client communications, AP, AR, contracting and client/project setup
Skills and Qualifications
·
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
·
7+ years proven accounting experience
·
Working knowledge of finance law, regulatory standards (GAAP), and State & Federal wage laws
·
Strong communication skills
·
Strong computer skills
·
Strong accounting software learning and retention skills
·
Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
Preferred Qualifications
·
5+ years experience as a senior/lead accountant
·
Desire and ability to be “hands-on” in the role
·
Willingness to train others
·
Construction management experience
·
Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis
·
Proven payroll experience, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes and Federal and State wage law
·
Excellent history of financial project and budget management
·
Small business experience
·
Professional service industry experience
·
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
