It does not identify all tasks that may be expected, nor address the performance standards that must be maintained.General Position Summary:Responsible for patient advocacy so that they may achieve the best results from their drug therapy.Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:•Interprets and enters medication orders.•Monitors and evaluates drug therapies.•Attends patient care rounds for the hospitalist program.•Dispenses medications.•Supervises and directs pharmacy technicians.•Manages the controlled substances.•Monitors and reconciles anesthesia reports.•Provides drug information and education.•Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the SHINE Behavior Guidelines.•Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.Secondary Functions:•Arranges scheduling for relief pharmacists.•Participates in departmental and hospitalwide informational meetings and inservices, including staff meetings, hospitalwide forums, and seminars.•Reviews department and hospitalwide policies and procedures annually.•All other duties as assigned.Additional / Seasonal Responsibilities:•Participates in the annual technician evaluations.•Participates in the annual pharmacy inventory.Job Scope:This job involves:•Recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm.•A high level of complexity.•Typical determination of own practices and procedures. Contributes to the development of new services, programs, or processes.•Performance of duties with independently-minimal supervision.Supervisory Responsibility:•Job is supervisory to the extent that daily work direction is provided to personnel in subordinate classifications.Interpersonal Contacts:Contacts:•Are normally made with others both inside and outside the hospital.•Are made with own department, staff, and supervisor as well as other departments and locations.•Frequently contain confidential/sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times.•Include face-to-face, telephone, and e-mail contact.•Include contact with staff, patients, and physicians.Specific Job Skills & Mental Activities:This position requires specific clinical skills, including: pharmacokinetics, monitoring lab values, monitoring TPNs, and correlating/interpreting/applying drug information. This position requires operational knowledge of general equipment and office equipment in the Pharmacy department, including: fax, printer, phone systems, computer, and commonly used hospital computer programs (including Hospital Information Systems, MS Office, e-mail, and internet). Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Must also be service oriented and have excellent clinical skills, computer skills, supervisory skills, problem-solving skills, decision-making skills, customer service skills, organizational skills, multitasking skills, professional interpersonal skills, time management skills, the ability to prioritize work, and telephone etiquette.Education and/or Experience:•BS in Pharmacy or PharmD (required)•AZ State Board of Pharmacy licensure (required).•Basic computer skills (required).•CPR/BLS Certification (required)•1-2 years previous managerial experience (required).Physical Demands & Job Conditions:Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Worker is subject to extensive computer work and contact with chemicals.Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, stooping, talking, reaching, feeling, sitting, bending, kneeling, grasping, listening/hearing, handling, lifting up to 10 pounds, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.This is a safety sensitive position. OSHA Exposure Category:Involves no regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, and tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and are not a condition of employment.
