Freese and Nichols is currently searching for an experienced engineer to serve as a project engineer for stormwater management projects in our Houston Office. The candidate must have a strong background in the development of stormwater/water resources infrastructure, and the preparation of preliminary engineering reports, design plans, technical specifications, and estimated project costs. The preferred candidate will have experience with software packages such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and the Microsoft Office suite. Experience with H&H modeling of open and closed drainage systems, including software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, ICM, XP-SWMM, and HY-8 is a plus. The preferred candidate will also have experience leading moderate to complex drainage design projects for a diverse client base, design oversight of EIT's and CAD staff, and coordination with other technical disciplines including geotechnical, structural, and construction.

The project engineer will be responsible for leading the analysis, design, and preparation of technical reports for diverse projects including open channels, closed conduit systems, pump stations, detention/retention ponds, mitigation of drainage impacts, roadway drainage design. The preferred candidate will have experience preparing Preliminary Engineering Reports, Plans, Specifications and Cost Estimates (PS&E), responding to construction Requests for Information (RFIs), working with Capital Improvement Plans (CIPs) and coordination with specialty practices and management of subconsultants, including survey, geotechnical, environmental, and subsurface utilities. Experience with streambank stabilization, channel restoration, desilting, and natural stable channel design is a plus.

Candidate will work independently as well as oversee the work of teams of professionals and technicians. The position includes a client interaction and a commitment to client service as well as the ability to collaborate with Senior Management on overall engineering processes and strategy.

Qualifications
  • Qualified candidates will have strong writing and teamwork skills, as well as team management experience
  • Qualified candidates will have at least a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or comparable engineering or applied science degree)
  • 5+ years related experience, and a Texas professional engineer registration (or the ability to become licensed in Texas within 6 months)
  • Demonstrated experience of successfully working with clients in the Houston metropolitan region including Harris County Flood Control District, Harris County Engineering, Fort Bend County Drainage District, City of Houston and other municipalities, TxDOT, drainage districts, and levee improvement districts in the region is considered a plus
