Position Summary:
A Detention Specialist maintains the security of the jail while preserving order to ensure the safety and welfare of staff, visitors, and inmates.

Reports to:

Platoon Sergeant

Adhere to policy, procedures, and post orders
Duties include but not limited to, answer calls for service; complete appropriate and required paperwork; testify in court; resolve conflict; complete required training; communicate clearly with citizens and other law enforcement professionals; dispense information to those who need it
Prepare variety of reports
Observation of Activities for safety of Sheriffs Office staff, contract staff and inmates.
Communicate by using the computer, telephone, two-way radio and intercom systems
Monitor and Record Inmate access and movement to and from the modules, Individual pods, visiting areas, master control and booking control
Operate Control panels and emergency alarm systems
Control access between front entrance, rear entrance and other secured areas of the Detention Facility
Track Inmate movement by logging information into the computer system, using JMS
Maintain balance of inmates using a roster, computer log, and physical count
Participate in training
Maintain Inventory and key control
Notify Sergeant of Emergency Situations. Contact other agencies that are needed, i.e. (SWAT, Ambulance, Fire Dept., etc.)
Monitor emergency alarms; observe controls to ensure systems are operable
Control access between the front entrance lobby, rear entrance, and other secured areas of the Jail facility
Perform main switchboard operations for incoming calls for Sheriff's Office Facilities.
Observe Deputy movement on the floor to ensure safety and security through observation from control tower and other assigned duty posts
Record inmate information on inmate's chronological records. These records document history of disciplinary actions, contacts, extra issue items, medical needs
Perform other duties that are assigned
Minimum 18 years of age
Must have a High School Diploma/GED
Valid Colorado Drivers License
Ability to type 25 WPM with accuracy
Knowledge of Computer Systems (MS Office Suite)
Excellent Customer Service Skills
Ability to multi-task
Ability to communicate effectively (Written and Oral)
Ability to maintain level of confidentiality
Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups and individuals
