REPORTS TO : Medical Director / Practice Manager

PAY RANGE: $58.10 - $72.62 per hour

WORK SCHEDULE: 1-2 days per week, weekdays only, no evenings, weekends, or on-call. Classified as per diem, ineligible for benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Examines eyes and performs various tests to determine visual acuity and perception and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities. Prescribes eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids to correct or conserve vision.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide primary vision care including examining patient's eyes and performing tests in order to diagnose vision problems and/or eye diseases.
  • Test patient's depth and color perception.
  • Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses and medications as needed.
  • Provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery.
  • Promote eye health by educating and counseling patients.
  • Maintain and assure completed confidential records for each patient served.
Requirements
  • Completion of a 4-year program at an accredited school of optometry.
  • Current, active New York State professional license registration.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with others.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • One (1) year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., lift and support patients with and without help.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Regular exposure to infectious diseases, blood and airborne pathogens, hygiene issues, and ability tolerate clinical smells and other odors.
  • Ability to read digital readouts, recognize colors and operate necessary medical equipment.
  • Ability to operate mechanical devices used by patients.
  • Ability to wear necessary hospital masks, gowns, gloves and close-toed shoes.
