Primary Services is excited to announce the role of Demurrage Analyst for our client in the energy and logistics industry. This role is essential for ensuring the proper, accurate, and timely processing of marine demurrage claims, playing a critical part in the financial operations of a large-scale enterprise. The position offers an opportunity to engage with multiple stakeholders across various departments, providing vital support and expertise in the handling of demurrage-related activities.

Responsibilities

  • Follow up on ongoing/completed ship operations and compute the corresponding demurrage estimates.
  • Analyze, negotiate, and process demurrage claims from ship/barge owners or counterparties; validate and process invoices upon agreement.
  • Identify, compute, claim, negotiate, and agree on demurrage amounts to be rebilled to commercial counterparties and terminals as per contracts.
  • Track outstanding demurrage claims and ensure timely resolutions, including periodic reconciliations with third parties.
  • Follow up on payment of demurrage invoices raised for rebills.
  • Maintain and update demurrage data in information systems, including DMS and SAP, ensuring accurate month-end accruals.
  • Record demurrage reasons in DMS and ensure proper filing for future reference.
  • Report on demurrage activities through KPIs and provide detailed analysis as required.
  • Offer proactive support to trading, operations, and chartering personnel on demurrage matters, including training and lessons learned from past cases.
  • Keep a database of general terms and conditions impacting demurrage and recommend adjustments to the company’s chartering conditions.
  • Provide backup support on specific tasks to ensure continuity of service.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a U.S. Maritime Academy preferred, or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
  • Three years of related experience in a marine or commercial environment requiring strong analytical skills.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Knowledge of import/export regulations, Incoterms, and commercial demurrage processes is a plus.
