The Business Systems Analyst (BSA) will work with business subject matter experts (SME's) and analysts to understand business requirements and objectives. The BSA will also work with IT technical staff and management to define software change requirements that satisfy the business requirements and support the business objectives. This position will work proactively the Information Technology Team and Business Community in the planning and execution of all activities required to ensure that applications, interfaces, code environments, and functions remain highly available and up-to-date for both maintenance, and business prioritized enhancements.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and business requirements pertaining to rate, rule, or form changes to existing or new lines of business.
  • Writes detailed description of user needs, program functions, and process steps required to develop or modify computer programs.
  • Reviews and edits requirements, specifications, business processes, and integrations to external or other Guidewire suite applications, and makes recommendations related to proposed solution.
  • Assists in development of QA testing scenarios and expected results relative to development specifications for use by IT developers.
  • Assists with regression, unit, and system software testing per test plans.
  • Communicates issues and verifies issue resolution.
  • Develops and communicates workarounds to business processes and system problems.
  • Provides continuous progress and status reporting to project management.
  • Works with business system ownership to ensure appropriate User Acceptance Testing is completed for all system changes prior to production use.
  • Creates and maintains application documentation for use in change impact analysis and test planning.
  • Effectively applies company Agile project methodology and enforces project standards.
  • Reviews business and technical deliverables.
  • Ensures that assigned issues are driven to conclusion.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • 3+ years Commercial Property & Casualty insurance products experience.
  • Prior completion of the following Guidewire Training Modules and/or certifications is highly preferred. Will consider candidates who commit to complete additional Guidewire curriculum for the Business Analyst role within first 6 months:
    • Base Curriculum Overview - Consisting of Cloud, SurePath, Implementation Tools, & Testing Framework
    • PolicyCenter - Introduction and Rating
    • Completion of InsuranceSuite Analyst Associate Exam
    • Recent Guidewire certifications, or related work experience in Dobson, Elysian, or Flaine PolicyCenter releases
  • Ability to configure insurance products in Guidewire PolicyCenter using Standards Based Templates (SBT) required; Advanced Product Designer (APD) experience is a plus.
  • Form development with SmartComm
  • Experience in a Guidewire cloud environment is a plus
  • Designation as a Guidewire Certified Professional or Guidewire Certified Ace is a plus
