Position Summary

The Director of Logistics leads a team primarily focused on managing inbound, inter-plant, and outbound transportation, transparency of in-transit shipments, import management and compliance, and guiding our Direct Import business. This role will lead the logistics strategy including improvements in cost & performance, and the optimization of the logistics processes and related Transportation Management Systems (TMS). Additionally, this leader will ensure flawless execution of the carrier network, compliance, while effectively managing costs to enable Homewerks to compete effectively in the marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • ? Ownership of Logistics strategy and a corresponding deployment roadmap.
  • ? Leading a team of 6-8 direct and indirect team members.
  • ? Manage and improve total Logistics costs via deployment of cost optimization approaches provider assessment & selection, contract and spot strategies, negotiations, container utilization, tariff management, avoidance and the minimization of accessorial charges, etc.
  • ? Conduct monthly Logistics reviews to share costs, activity levels, economic insights that may impact cost and performance from our logistics network.
  • ? Lead the Direct Import processes with input from Sales, Supply Chain, and Accounting.
  • ? Ensure compliance with customer routing requirements & US Customs import regulations.
  • ? Collaborate with Sales, Sourcing, Distribution and Supply Chain leadership to share logistics related planning information to ensure the effective and transparent execution of service providers within the logistics network.
  • ? Drive accountability internally and externally to achieve superior performance and costs through the implementation and use of metrics.
  • ? Utilize structured problem-solving approaches and systems to aid in improving costs, compliance, efficiency, accuracy, and scalability for growth.
  • ? Hold service providers accountable to providing accurate invoices to agreed upon rates.
  • ? Participate in the annual budget process, cascading company and departmental goals to the logistics team.

Qualifications

  • ? Business degree from a four-year college or university in business or related area of study (MBA preferred).
  • ? 7+ years of various Logistics related experiences (transportation, import management & compliance, distribution).
  • ? 5+ years leading direct reports including organizational and people development.
  • ? Balanced approach with hands-on and team development & empowerment.
  • ? Utilizing metrics and data to drive actions.
  • ? Exceptional analytic & negotiations skills.
  • ? Strong communications & collaborative team player.
  • ? Experience with the deployment and optimization of TMS applications.
  • ? Desired experience using structured problem-solving approaches such as continuous improvement tools / lean methodologies to improve performance metrics.
  • ? Strong experience at managing projects, working on, and leading teams, developing and implementing processes..
