Position Summary

Saltchuk is seeking a Senior Benefits Analyst who is self-motivated, detail-oriented and who has significant benefits (health and retirement) experience. This position is a member of the Saltchuk Corporate HR Team, reporting to the Sr. Manager of Benefits for Saltchuk. The position will support various Operating Company payroll and HR staff in the compliance activities for the 401(k) Plan with assets of over $600M. This role will be a “trusted advisor” to the stakeholders across Saltchuk’s 6 business units and 30+ Operating Companies and is the point person for supporting the business in day-to-day trouble shooting plan issues and questions as well as data issues affecting the 401(k) recordkeeper, as well as support the Senior Benefits Manager on health and welfare benefit administration and associated vendor management tasks.

Job Responsibilities

Provide analyst support for the company’s 401(k) plan, including ensuring plan compliance. Assist with design, implementation, and day-to-day administration of health & welfare benefit plans. Support annual benefits open enrollment planning and execution. Help develop effective communication strategy to educate and reach diverse employee population. Learn details of all plan documents and policies. Keep abreast of legislative changes, and legal requirements, such as ERISA, HIPAA, and the Affordable Care Act to assist with plan compliance efforts. Serves as the liaison for the business units and operating companies’ human resources and payroll departments on escalated employee benefit issues or compliance questions. Works closely with the Sr. Benefits Manager, the 401(k) recordkeeper account team, health/welfare benefit broker, and ERISA counsel to ensure close collaboration and alignment on solutions to problems or issues. Assure processes and procedures are in place to capture and maintain consistent and accurate benefit related data, including ensuring accuracy of benefit deductions and streamlining current processes and procedures to ensure proper data flow to relevant parties. Assist in data analysis and reporting. Other duties as assigned in support of the Sr. Benefit Manager and Saltchuk strategies, including but not limited to: assisting with company wellness initiatives, commuter program support. Qualifications

Education Benefit certifications preferred (CBP, CEBS) Experience and Skills The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years directly related benefits experience. Experience working in a multi-business unit environment helpful. Significant experience with 401(k) plan administration is required. Advanced knowledge in health benefits plan design and administration (self-insured plan management experience is a plus). Solid understanding of compliance requirements and best practices related to benefit plans (health and retirement). Highly organized with ability to manage multiple high-priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong project and process management skills with a demonstrated track record of delivering results. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for communicating complex information to colleagues of all levels and backgrounds. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills – must be highly proficient working in Excel. Minimum intermediate skill level using PowerPoint and Word. Experience creating benefit education presentations and delivering or co-facilitating with HR staff. Demonstrated experience writing procedures.
