Surgical Technologist OR

The Surgical Technologist assists in preparing and caring for patients undergoing surgery, ensuring a sterile environment and supplying the surgical team with necessary instruments. This role requires certification and involves working closely with Registered Nurses to support the surgical operations. Additionally, the technologist participates in safety protocols and may assist in the maintenance and turnover of operating rooms.
Job Description:The Tech performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Tech will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices.
In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.Posting SpecificsPay Details: $28.15/hour + depending on experience (Certified). $25.58/hour + depending on experience (Uncertified)Benefits Eligible: Yes (Health, Vision, & Dental Insurance, 401(K), education assistance, + many more)Shift Details: Full-time, 40 hours/week. 10 or 12-hour shift options available. Monday - Friday. No set day off. Holiday and call shifts requiredDepartment: Operating Room, Lutheran Medical CenterScope1. Assists in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Assembles, organizes and completes case carts according to doctors preference lists.2. Provides appropriate instrumentation, suture and all supplies as requested and provides and maintains a sterile environment. May assist surgeon by passing instruments to surgeon during cases.3. Counts sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper technique and established policy.4. Assists in maintenance and care of specimens and prepares for laboratory analysis. Handles specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated materials and sharps in accordance with established policy and recommended standards of practice5. Assists with timely turnover of rooms, including clean up, replacement and restocking of supplies and equipment. Cares for instruments and equipment.6. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.7. Performs other duties as assigned.8. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.9. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.Minimum QualificationsRequired (Certified)High school diploma or GED is requiredGraduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist program is requiredNCCT Surgical Technologist certification (TS-C) or NBSTSA certification is requiredRegistered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is requiredCurrent American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approvalRequired (Uncertified)High school diploma or GED is requiredGraduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist program is requiredRegistered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is requiredCurrent American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approvalPreferred1 year of OR scrubbing experience is preferred 1year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital is preferredTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
