As an intern at Blue Shield of California, you will: Participate in impactful projects during a 10-week internship program Undertake a 10-week curriculum designed to familiarize interns with BSC, leadership development, exposure to the healthcare industry, and more Be invited to participate in BSC employee events and networking opportunities such as Employee Resource Groups, employee volunteer activities, and more

General Requirements: Must reside in the state of California for the duration of the internship Hybrid requirements - Preferably live within a 50-mile radius of a BSC office and be available for in-office collaboration 2 times per month Must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of the internship, with a graduation date of December 2025 or later

Your Role The Data Governance team drives building trust in data via alignment and transparency across the organization to achieve the company's goal of transforming healthcare. In this role you will be part of a high-performing team which works across the enterprise by SME based stewardship and transparency on definitions of business concepts in data, technical metadata management, data quality, reference data management, master data management, security and compliance.

Your Work In this role, you will: Mapping BSC business taxonomy to Healthcare Industry standard taxonomy:

Associate BSC business taxonomy to HL7 taxonomy to enable interoperability Suggest refinement of the business taxonomy of BSC in data catalog for industry standardization

Compliance:

Associate applicable regulatory policies to business taxonomy

Your Knowledge and Experience Actively pursuing a master's degree in Health Informatics & Public Health Interest in and understanding of Industry standards for healthcare data and applicable regulatory policies Minimum 1 year of related professional experience, project, or coursework Proactive, solution focused mindset with demonstrated creative, problem-solving skills Passionate about changing healthcare and challenging the status quo via Healthcare Information management
