Software Development Manager

AWS Lambda, the pioneering serverless compute service, is a mature yet innovative offering experiencing continuous rapid growth. Having become a critical compute infrastructure and the default choice for a wide range of applications, Lambda is now unlocking new possibilities, making this an exciting time to join the team.
As an Engineering Manager, you'll lead a team of engineers who are building the foundational systems that power Lambda's Event Ingestion. We're talking about the services enabling applications to scale from zero to millions of requests instantly, without provisioning any infrastructure.
Your team's mission is all about making Lambda a "boringly trustworthy" service that just works, with top-notch availability, and performance. But that's not all – you'll also drive innovation to extend Lambda's capabilities to new use cases, empowering developers to build serverless applications with ease.
In this role, you'll lead a team of exceptional engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and inspiring them to push the boundaries of serverless computing. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive architectural decisions, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems that meet the ever-growing demands of Lambda's global customer base.
So, if you're ready to be part of the team that's revolutionizing serverless computing and building the invisible infrastructure that powers AWS Lambda, this is the opportunity for you.
Key job responsibilities
• Lead and mentor a team of skilled software engineers, inspiring innovation in serverless computing.
• Architect and develop core systems powering AWS Lambda's serverless auto-scaling capabilities, ensuring scalability, fault-tolerance, and high performance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align technical roadmaps and deliver customer-centric solutions.
• Stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends, driving adoption of new practices to enhance Lambda.
• Represent the team in technical discussions, advocating for priorities and solutions.
• Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within the team.
• Manage recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of talented software engineers to achieve team goals.
A day in the life
As an Engineering Manager, your primary focus will be driving innovation and technical excellence for AWS Lambda - the pioneering serverless computing platform:
• Mentor a team of software engineers, fostering continuous learning and knowledge sharing through stand-ups, code reviews, and one-on-ones. Inspire them to push boundaries and embrace failure as a learning opportunity.
• Architect and develop core systems powering Lambda's Event Ingestion, ensuring scalability, fault-tolerance, and high performance to handle massive traffic spikes seamlessly. Optimize service utilization and economics, improving resource efficiency while maintaining high availability and low latency.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to align on technical roadmaps and deliver customer-centric solutions. Stay ahead of emerging technologies and drive the adoption of new practices to enhance Lambda.
Your internal stakeholders include engineering teams, product managers, and Lambda leadership, while your customers are developers and businesses worldwide relying on Lambda. Your mission? Ensuring a "boringly trustworthy" service that empowers them to focus on business logic without worrying about infrastructure or operations.
