Then we have a job for youYour Role: We are seeking an individual to be responsible for performing hydrographic survey work/direction related to the Port of Portland's Dredge "Oregon" operations in accordance with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (Portland District) contract along the Columbia River between Astoria and Portland. Act as backup for water quality on the Dredge Oregon. Manage and archive all hydrographic survey files for future use and liability. Determine appropriate approach, equipment usage, and procedures for each dredging project. Operate DGPS, GPS surveying instruments, terrestrial total station, and electronic levels to accomplish the collection of field measurements for hydrographic surveys and upland disposal site surveys. Process field measurements into X, Y, Z positions with point descriptions when necessary, utilizing Hypack, Terramodel and AutoCad and provide data in appropriate format for the use of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Dredge Oregon personnel and stakeholders. Review the work of others and provide professional opinion/direction when necessary. Provide field/office support for the Port survey department during the off-dredging season.

Essential Job DutiesEssential Job Duties:Perform/direct hydrographic surveys along the Columbia River between Astoria and Portland for the Dredge "Oregon" operation in accordance with the United States Army Corps of Engineers contract. Serve as the quality control manager and I.T. support for the Dredge "Oregon."Perform/direct all types of survey products required for design, development, leases and maintenance of Port facilities, including but not limited to topographic, hydrographic, boundary, exhibit plats, ALTA, and land division surveys in conformance with Port survey and CAD standards and ensure accuracy and completeness.Manage survey consultants/Port technicians through all phases of Port hydrographic and land survey projects. Provide leadership and professional/technical support, expertise, and guidance to Port staff, Port operating areas, and outside consultants/agencies for development of Port projects.Provide professional opinion/direction to consultants and Port staff to ensure adherence to Port and industry standards.Utilize advanced techniques to perform/direct accurate and complete hydrographic and land surveys at all Port facilities. Prepare project scope of work, appropriate methods/equipment, and cost estimates for the survey aspect of engineering and land development projects. Serve as backup for water quality monitoring. Minimum QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Education and Experience required for this role.Education: Bachelor's degree in surveying/geomatics with specific focus on land and hydrographic surveying or related field; or extended experience and associate degree (preferred). Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience working as a land and hydrographic surveyor; with successful experience as a project lead/manager of hydrographic and land surveying projects; demonstrated leadership, judgment, and technical/professional competence related to surveying, design, boundary determination, land divisions, hydrographic and construction; experience using GPS field data collection equipment and software; experience working in marine and airfield security environments; or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.License and/or Certification: Oregon Professional Land Surveyor license (required); ACSM-THSOA Certified Hydrographer (preferred); valid Oregon or Washington driver's license (required). Demonstrated Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrated skills: Computer and general Microsoft Office skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to produce/direct complete and accurate survey measurements; promotes safety as a guiding principle and a regular practice in accomplishing work; focuses on safety improvements and complies with safety and health policies and procedures; shows the utmost respect for others and is a proven team player.Ability to: assess conditions to determine methods, equipment and procedures for conducting/directing hydrographic and field surveys; work with different agencies and departments; read and interpret architectural and engineering design drawings; produce neat and organized survey notes under all weather conditions; work independently; operate survey total stations, electronic levels, hydrographic survey equipment and provide professional support/expertise and guidance to Port operating areas; obtain security badging at marine terminals; PDX and other Port facilities, which may require a background check; demonstrate commitment to valuing differences among individuals and passion for being inclusive.Working knowledge of: using GPS field data collection equipment and software and hydrographic field data equipment and software; Port operations at all facilities.Advanced knowledge of: and experience in Hypack, terramodel and CAD (AutoCAD and Civil 3D) terrain modeling and drafting; comprehensive knowledge and understanding of surveying theory and practice; in-depth understanding of engineering design concepts and survey practices related to land divisions, easements, hydrographic surveys and boundary determination.Working ConditionsReports to Port of Portland Headquarters Building, 7200 NE Airport Way and the Dredge Oregon along the Columbia River; position is indoors and outdoors; position requires travel to all Port operating areas; will require working on watercraft active airfields and active construction sites; working hours generally 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday with potential for on-call, night, or weekend work.The Port promotes safety as a guiding principle and practice in accomplishing work by complying with safety and health policies and procedures and consistently seeking improvements that support operational excellence.CompensationOur organization adheres to established salary ranges for each position to ensure equitable pay practices.
