SLAC Job Postings Position Overview:The Technology Innovation Directorate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is looking for a Principal Installation Technician. Working under the direction of a supervisor, the Principal Installation Technician independently develops installation instructions and procedures. These higher-level assignments normally require study and analysis of procedures, layouts, precedents and several possible courses of action. Assignments may include quality control and provision of direction or technical assistance to other workers. The Principal Installation Technicians works from system requirements and general instructions as to scope, objectives, time limitations, and priorities.Your specific responsibilities include: Plan layout for field installation of electronic equipment in accordance with National Electrical Code (NEC), mostly focused on low-voltage (120VAC \ 24VDC) industrial equipment and instrumentation.

Fabricate multi-conductor cable assemblies, coaxial cable, and wiring harnesses

Route, place and tie down cables on cable trays and feed-through.

Terminate and connect cables to distribution frames, chassis, and experimental apparatus

Installation of Cat 3, 5 & 6 and termination & testing

Plan and develop procedures for fabricating rack assemblies, installing electronic sub-assemblies and other related equipment.

Cable routing systems installation:

Install and fabricate cable tray, wire way assemblies.

Install rigid and flexible conduit to racks, electrical boxes and equipment enclosures.

Bond and ground tray systems, racks and equipment enclosures.

Electrical equipment and interface device installation:

Fabricate, modify, and install standard electrical chassis such as fuse panels, indicator panels, cross-connect blocks and power distribution.

Fabricate rack assemblies.

Install wiring and electronic sub-assemblies and equipment.

Wire AC power in electronic racks.

Works closely with customers to:

Check installed cables for electrical continuity, proper termination and excessive damage.

Verify, update, and record cable numbers, routing, origination, and termination points, and connecting device designations.

Collect and collate parts, material, tools, and equipment for installation and assembly

Participate in resolving other related layout and assembly issues.

Instruct and advise others on the preparation of installation request.

Recommend changes in installation procedures and specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance and increase reliability and safety.

May assume lead responsibilities for a given project.

Perform work in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC). Adhere to applicable environmental safety and health procedures and guidelines such as such as National Electric Code (NEC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

To be successful in this position you will bring: High School Diploma or equivalent and five years¿ experience in electrical control systems or a combination of relevant education and experience.

Ability to understand and work from assembly and electrical diagrams.

A thorough working knowledge of various tools required for installation and assembly work.

Ability to work with a minimal degree of supervision.

Must be able to interface with all levels of scientific and/or engineering staff and have good customer service skills.

Must have good spatial and mechanical perception.

Experience working in a high pressure environment consistently producing quality work with fast turn requirements.

Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written)

Must be able to read and understand technical diagrams, manuals, job orders and equipment installation drawings.

Must be able to work closely with and take instruction from designers, coordinators, engineers and scientist.

Must be able to clearly convey ideas to designers, coordinators, engineers and scientists.

Computer literacy- computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications

Knowledge of applicable National Electric Code (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and SLAC environmental safety and health rules, procedures and applications.

Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.
