The Role:
Working in a team-oriented workplace, Electrical Engineer IV will effectively apply electronic skills to perform activities concerned with analysis, design, testing/troubleshooting and manufacturing of products/systems including the application of these products/systems to commercial, industrial and scientific uses. As required by the business, works closely with other engineering disciplines in the development and application of products/systems or services.

Job Responsibilities:

• An excellent understanding of the Customer's requirements, expectations, and application environment as it relates to product/system performance is required.

• Execution of Customer requirements/expectations into product variations/enhancements or a new product idea is expected.

• Collaboration and teamwork with other functional departments such as Reliability, Value Stream, Manufacturing Engineering, Test Engineering, GPS, Tech Service, Depot Centers, Sourcing, Business Centers, Product Management, etc., is required to ensure product/system performance objectives are met.

• Timely resolution of product/system issues that affect MI's internal and external Customers, which may involve engineering research, redesign, test & validation, documentation and communication is expected.

• Responsible for all phases of product development including the specification, design, component selection, implementation, verification and validation of products and services. May provide technical leadership to a small group of assigned engineers and technicians.

• Principle responsibility/ownership in the development of new electronic circuits or systems.

• Proficient in the use of computer-assisted engineering and design software/equipment such as ECAD to perform assignments which include schematic capture and circuit simulation.

• Recommend complex components, architectural systems and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability and make recommendations to support product development.

• Determine, plan and execute design approaches and parameters through the research, assimilation and application of new technology, utilizing creative problem-solving skills such as DOE/FMEA in order to develop new electrical analysis methods.

• Remain current with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

• Principle responsibility/ownership towards the continuous improvement efforts within the R&D community.

• Perform, guide or lead complex electrical design functions associated with new product development. Comfortable working with and/or directing the mechanical, chemical, and electromechanical aspects of project.

• Collaborate with and direct other engineers/peers in the acquisition, analysis and verification of electrical performance to specification through simulation and measurement. (E.g. power factors, electronic architecture timing, I/O, User Interface, communication ports, etc.).

• Ensure successful completion of the assigned project/task within the budgeted time and cost constraints.

• Participate in key account relationships involving requirements definitions, special applications/designs, and validation through field testing.

• Work closely with local business/technical centers, sales and service representatives in order to generate revenue generation opportunities.

• Identify new and/or works with existing suppliers and subcontractors on specifications, designs, schedules, etc. in the support of projects and production equipment. Coordinate key account relationships involving requirements definitions, special applications/designs, and validation through field testing.

• Coordinate, lead and/or participate in design review meetings and associated activities.

• Actively participates in the annual business planning sessions related to Electrical R&D.

• Maintain laboratory notebooks in accordance with requirements of research/ design/development process.

• Travel and/or interfacing with Customers, Business Centers is expected and encouraged.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Job Requirements:

• Master's Degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in a related field or a Bachelor's Degree with 10 years of experience.

• On-going, advanced coursework in Electrical/Electronic Engineering required.

• 10+ years of experience developing PCBAs.

• Demonstrated ability to design and enter schematics (Altium a plus) and a superior knowledge and experience of digital, embedded CPU and analog circuits.

• FPGA and/or C programming skills a plus.

• The candidate should be able to develop their assignments will minimal direction as well as functional as part of a cross-functional and international product development team.

• Mentoring and leadership of less experienced personnel in an agile environment.

• Expertise in more than one of the following is required: system design, analog and digital circuit design, solid state power electronics and power conversion, microprocessor and digital signal processor, software, local area networks, wireless communications, data logging, and electromechanical devices.

• Complex analog and digital design capability that includes expertise with low- and high-density integrated circuits, microprocessors/microcontrollers, motor controllers, display drivers, communication drivers, input/output devices, power supply circuits/conditioning, wiring diagrams and cable management. Experience with architectural design/manufacturing that includes VHDL, FPGA, CPLD, BGA and SMT.

• Expertise with PCB design, testing, analysis and validation required.

• Expertise with EMI/EMC design, testing techniques and Agency certification practices required.

• Programming knowledge of C++ is preferred.

• Proven track record of success for designing, implementing and manufacturing reliable product designs.

• Expert use of test equipment/apparatus, computer-assisted engineering and design software, circuit board processes, etc.

• Expertise with the use of ECAD for schematic capture and circuit simulation, oscilloscopes, DMM's, logic/spectrum analyzers, signal generators and data logging equipment.

• Expertise utilizing Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology is required.

• Proficient knowledge of common software programs, including Word and Excel.

• Strong leadership, Customer, interpersonal communication and mentoring skills a must.

• Demonstrated aptitude in Engineering Excellence: FMEA, DFT, DFM, Root Cause Analysis, Design of Experiments, etc.

Work Arrangement: Onsite
Salary Range: $150,000.00 - $170,000.00
