**COUNTY OF WARREN**

**DEPUTY SHERIFF - CAPTAIN SUPPORT SERVICES**

**General Definition**:
Performs technical, professional and administrative duties at the direction of the Major and Sheriff. Does related work as required. Duties are performed in accordance with local, state and federal applicable laws and ordinances. Provides supervision over the School Resource Division, Court Security Division, Court Holding Division, Civil Process Division and the Community Policing Unit. Further duties include community engagement, social media management, and honor guard.

**Essential Functions/Typical Tasks**:

- Provide supervision for all law enforcement activities within the Warren County Public Schools and coordinate work assignments with the School Resource Officers (SROs).
- Supervision over civil process division, court security division, court holding division, and community policing unit, as well as manage social media and community engagement.
- Directs, writes and implements Sheriff's Office rules, regulations and general orders.
- Implements policy, procedures and programs as directed.
- Liaison between the Sheriff’s Office, the Warren County Courts, the Warren County Public Schools and the community.
- Develops and maintains a good relationship with county, town, school, and courthouse personnel.
- Provide supervision over the honor guard of the Sheriff's Office.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Thorough knowledge of laws, rules and court decisions relating to the administration of criminal justice and law enforcement.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct personnel assigned to various units.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, associates and the general public.
- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs and to institute improvements.
- Ability to prepare and review reports.

**Education and Experience**:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school (may have some college course work in criminal justice or a related field) and extensive experience of a wide and progressively responsible nature in law enforcement, including at least three years of law enforcement supervisory experience.

**Special Requirements**:
Possession of a valid driver’s license and current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice
