**Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital is a single-specialty surgical hospital in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Our hospital was developed by Rothman physicians to provide their patients high quality and patient-focused care. Our facility features 6 fully-equipped operating rooms and 24 in-patient rooms. We are equipped for joint replacements, orthopedic surgery, pain management and spine surgery, as well as sports medicine, foot and ankle, shoulder and elbow, and hand and wrist procedures.**

**JOB SUMMARY**:
Position is responsible for accurately posting payments and adjustments to patient accounts, balancing deposits and cash posted, maintaining a deposit summary and recording non A/R, collecting patient balances.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- High School graduate required
- HOSPITAL/PHYSICIAN OFFICE HEALTHCARE EXPERIENCE ONLY
- Two years' minimum experience in a medical facility or medical business office required
- Experience in third party payer requirements preferred
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as an Explanation of Benefit and/or Remittance Advice
- Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and month end closing preferred
- Requires visual and auditory acuity adequate for frequent use of computers and other business office equipment
- Ability to sit for long periods of time

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Works with Business Office Manager, hospital staff, patients, and payers to resolve issues. Utilizes all available resources.
- Explains in-network and out-of-network benefits to patients. Explains reimbursement process. Calculates patient liability with coinsurance calculator and documents in EMR. Establishes payment arrangements within departmental guidelines and completes promissory note. Documents terms clearly in EMR and sets up patient contract.
- Knows the verification and pre-certification process. Performs insurance verification as needed, documents in EMR, and makes appropriate notification to patient regarding liability. Files paperwork promptly in Medical Records.
- Assists all customers with questions and provides assistance and information in a professional and helpful manner and/or refers the patient to the proper person or vendor to assist them.
- Accurately posts payments for all monies deposited in bank within 24 hours of deposit utilizing appropriate journal name and batch naming convention. Performs the appropriate adjustment and transfers balance to secondary insurance or guarantor, as applicable. Leaves appropriate balance on account for underpayments and overpayments
- Maintains knowledge of payer contracts and requirements. Utilizes all calculators and contracts to calculate correct allowable. Understands which calculator to use for each calculation. Documents accounts clearly. Refers underpayments and denials to appropriate collector for follow-up.
- Reviews Unapplied Cash account on a weekly basis. Researches items and moves them to proper account or refunds, as applicable.
- Follows up on accounts with outstanding patient balances that do not have appropriate payment arrangements. Follows up on accounts with payment arrangements to ensure adherence to terms; takes appropriate action for non-compliance.
- Records deposits and posted cash batches on deposit summary every day. Balances daily. Provides rebate payment information to Materials and/or Accounts Payable upon receipt.
