**Maintenance Worker - Forestry Division**

The Maintenance Worker performs maintenance including inspection, pruning, removal, and planting trees to maintain trees throughout the City. Specific work assignments are provided on a daily basis and may be rotated. Work includes the operation of motorized equipment and the expenditure of heavy physical labor. A Maintenance Worker may be assigned to lead a crew.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:_
- Trim small trees from the ground.
- Assist in the removal of trees using ropes and rigging equipment.
- Operate brush chipper, stump grinder and spray unit.
- Haul wood and chips to disposal yards for recycling.
- Water and care for new tree plantings.
- Perform ground operations during removals and tree pruning.
- Deliver wood chips to City residents.
- Hang banners and seasonal decorations as directed.
- Operate a wide variety of equipment and vehicles of various classifications as qualified and assigned including dump trucks, tractors, loaders, pumps, backhoe, aerial lift truck (height of 65 ft.) and other equipment.
- Operate various hand and power tools, including chain saws, jack hammer, pole saws.
- Prepare winter salt mixtures and drive a dump truck with snow plow and spreader in performing snow and ice control duties, as needed.
- Respond to 24-hour emergency call-back**.**
- Safely perform department operations, including climbing trees using a rope and saddle and operate an aerial lift truck to a height of 65 feet.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**

**Education/Experience**:High school diploma or equivalent. General computer skills required. Preferred experience includes rope and saddle climbing (minimum of two years), familiarity with ANSI Z133 Safety Requirements, working knowledge of GIS systems and a background in tree operations.

**Licenses/Certifications**:Valid Illinois Driver’s License required. Must acquire a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with related endorsements within 90 days of hire.Possession of a Flagger’s Certification may be required. Possession of a Forklift Certification may be required.
