TxDOT's Montgomery Maintenance Office is looking for a General Transportation Tech I, II, or III located in Conroe, TX. Working to improve the roadways for Texas drivers, we have busy and varied work with opportunities for growth in a secure and stable workforce. **Position Description**

**General Transportation Tech I**

Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

**General Transportation Tech II**

Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

**General Transportation Tech III**

Performs highly complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: contract maintenance and material and process inspection; roadway maintenance and repair; operates light and heavy equipment; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

**Essential Duties**:
**General Transportation Tech I**
- Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
- Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
- Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.
- Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

**General Transportation Tech II**
- Includes all essential duties of General Transportation Tech I as well as:_
- Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
- Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.
