**TRANSPORT NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION**
**JOB SUMMARY**:
The HCA transport nurse’s primary function is to safely transport clients to medical and dental appointments, procedures and to the hospital for ER visits and surgeries while acting as the client’s personal representative in interacting with other health care professionals and provide clinical support for the nurse managers.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
He or she must have a valid Arizona driver’s license, current auto/driver’s insurance and agree to abide by all traffic laws and signals. Texting while driving is forbidden and use of a cell phone while driving is discouraged unless it is an emergency. A basic knowledge of how to respond to road side emergencies is required and it is expected that any defect or malfunction of HCA vehicles will be reported immediately. He or she is asked to make sure there is adequate gas in the transport vans when returning them and to keep the van clean inside and out. All expenses for fuel, car washes, insurance and maintenance of transport vehicles etc. are covered by HCA.
He or she must be able to effectively and quickly respond to emergencies during transport and during appointments including cardiac or respiratory arrest, respiratory distress, and/or equipment failures. He or she must be able to safely stop on the road to attend to the client if needed and should be prepared should a client remove their tracheostomy tube, disconnect their ventilator, etc. enroute to or during an appointment.
The transport nurse must be able to safely and appropriately use infant and toddler car seats, strollers, and wheelchairs for transport. He or she must be able to effectively use and troubleshoot all equipment such as suction, ventilators, portable oxygen, feeding pumps, oximeters and IV pumps and to secure these items in a moving vehicle.
The HCA transport nurse is expected to represent the company in a professional, competent and friendly manner at all times. This includes dressing in business casual clothing or scrubs and being well groomed. He or she must be prepared to knowledgeably answer questions regarding the client’s medical and social history and insurance information. He or she is responsible for ensuring proper records and documents are brought to appointments (i.e. chart, insurance cards, etc.). An HCA I.D. badge will be worn and a valid picture i.d. is to be carried at all times.
It is the transport nurse’s responsibility to be familiar with the clients at all 6 homes and to ask the staff or nurse manager appropriate questions about the purpose of the appointment when necessary. The clinical director and clinical specialist are always available as a resource for the transport nurse.
The transport nurse, along with the nurse manager, is responsible that all forms for BTPs and behavior modifying medications and requirements are completed during appointments.
A full time transport nurse is expected to be available at least 4-5 week days per week from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (i.e. 8 hours) but may be needed to provide services earlier or later in to the day in certain circumstances such as hospital discharge, late running appointments or early surgeries or procedures. He or she must be prepared for sudden schedule changes such as last minute appointments, sick visits or rescheduling due to client illness. A part time transport nurse is also expected to available from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on his/her scheduled days unless other arrangements have been made ahead of time. The transport nurse will assist the nurse managers during regular working hours as the schedule permits (i.e. before between or after appointments).
The transport nurse will perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
The full-time transport nurse is expected to occasionally work a shift at any of the group homes in case of a scheduling emergency, and to assist in covering holidays if necessary, but otherwise will not routinely be scheduled to work holiday shifts.
The transport nurse may occasionally be asked to be the on-call RN for HCA and on those days will be paid for a 12- hour day.
The transport nurse directly reports to the Transport Nurse Manager.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:
Must meet all requirements for a staff RN
RN (unless otherwise “grandfathered in”), BSN preferred, licensed in Arizona
Previous experience as a staff nurse and/or manager at HCA strongly preferred, however an RN with NICU or PICU experience or the equivalent may be considered.
A background of current driving record will be obtained to ensure vehicle insurance applicability.
Pay: $34.45 - $45.45 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
