Under general supervision of the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Technician will perform a variety of administrative duties for full-cycle bi-weekly payroll. This includes, calculate and record payroll deductions; process federal and state related payroll taxes and benefit payments; process wage garnishments and separation pay for terminations; and produce off-cycle payroll checks. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining and reconciling payroll records; compiling, reviewing, verifying payroll audit, time clock data information and generating payroll reports.

**Essential Duties**:

- Responsible for processing the bi-weekly payroll for over 900 employees (full time, part time non-student and student positions).
- Verifies bi-weekly payroll information ensuring compliance with policies and procedures; federal and state regulations.
- Review and trouble shoot time and attendance discrepancies and works with appropriate departments and/or supervisors to resolve.
- Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leaves of absence and pre-tax wages.
- Assist with calculating employee and employer federal and state income taxes and social security/Medicare taxes (FICA).
- Process and maintain confidential payroll records and files such as, wage garnishments, and audit information accordingly.
- Assist with DE9, 941, and W2 fillings.
- Processes off-cycle payroll checks as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum of 1 year payroll experience
- Knowledge of payroll functions and how they interface with accounting, benefits and IT
- Experience in higher education industry, preferred.
- Must have strong organizational, analytical, and computer skills.
- Knowledge of standard payroll practices and procedures.
- Familiar with applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, and practices pertaining to payroll and time reporting.
- Basic accounting and internal control policies and procedures.
- Must have good written and oral communication skills.

**EDUCATION**:

- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
