- Support Salary Grade S07**:$21.21 per hour; starting**
- Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is _**_non_**_-_**_exempt_**_ from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System._

**Role**

The **Lead Custodian** leads and directs building custodians in maintaining facilities in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety to maximize and optimize facility use by students, staff, and visitors.
**Essential Functions**

Reporting directly to the Principal, Assistant Principal, Building Manager, or their designee, the Lead Custodian performs the following duties:
**Custodial Duties**
- Ensures efficient custodial scheduling to support building operations, cleaning, grounds maintenance, extracurricular activities, outside user group activities, and emergency response, while minimizing overtime costs.
- Coordinates and directs activities necessary for facility operation, including: integrated pest management (IPM), fuel oil tank readings, and contracted services (e.g. snow removal, grass mowing).
- Assigns cleaning areas and ensures that individual custodians are properly cleaning and maintaining their assigned areas.
- Maintains appropriate levels of custodial supplies to ensure efficient operations and avoid spoilage.
- Complete and submit work orders and reports (e.g. supply requisitions, repair service requests, oil tank reading reports) in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform regular building walkthroughs to evaluate cleanliness and operational readiness and report findings to the Administrator.
- Perform seasonal tasks including: snow and ice removal, salt spreading, grass mowing, line trimming, mulching, raking, policing grounds for trash, and weeding.
- Perform deep cleaning tasks including: refinishing tile floors, refinishing wood floors, high cleaning from a ladder or man lift, washing furniture, and cleaning of carpeting.
- Perform as needed custodial tasks including: graffiti removal, replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles, unclogging plumbing fixtures, painting, and minor repairs and maintenance on custodial equipment.
- Consistently maintain school at or above a level of cleanliness rated as “good” or higher on the Custodial Services Inspection.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities throughout the facility on an ongoing basis.
- Reports promptly for work, utilizes time wisely, and maintains an acceptable pattern of attendance that must not adversely affect the overall operation and cleanliness of the school.
- Consistently display an attitude of teamwork/cooperation/professionalism along with an ability to follow both written and verbal directions with mínimal follow up.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required to upgrade skill level or knowledge.
- Work requires working varied shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Respond in a timely manner to facility emergencies (including those occurring after normal working hours, weekends, or holidays).

**Occupational Safety Duties**
- Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner and insure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA, trade specific, and FCPS standards/policies/procedures.
- Monitor activities in and around all work areas for the purpose of preventing injuries and ensuring site safety.
- Operate powered work platforms, man lifts, tractors, snow blowers, lawn mowers, string trimmers according to applicable regulations and safety procedures.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain tools and equipment for the purpose of insuring availability in safe operating condition.
- Communicate immediately any unsafe working condition, broken equipment, or any issue requiring the submission of a work order.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner and ensure all employees under his/her leadership are operating in the same manner.

- Reassignment between work shifts may occur at any time in accordance with the Negotiated Agreement.
