**SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
Our mission is to provide customers with the highest possible quality of services. This includes recognition of the importance of quality customer service to patients, visitors and staff. The housekeeper is responsible for the overall cleanliness of the surgical areas, ancillary rooms, and the equipment housed in them. They are trained to assist the professional staff in carrying out specific tasks associated with the care of the surgical patient. Duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to:
- Daily linen par level request by 9:30 am.
- Checking and stocking areas with specimen containers and blood tubes.
- Responsible for maintaining par levels of trash/linen bags, cleaning supplies, laundry (pt. gowns, sheets, towels, pillow cases, blankets). Is responsible for outdates for housekeeping/lab supplies.
- Bring case specimens to the appropriate department. Insures that they initial pathology log sheet and that Lab Technician visually inspects and also initials the OR specimen log.
- Bring STAT cultures to the Lab and ensures that Lab Technician is aware of the culture.
- Pick up blood products for transfusion from the Blood Bank. Must verify blood product cross-reference information with Blood Bank staff.
- Assist staff with set-up and breakdown of case specific equipment.
- Responsible for daily cleaning of the department.
- Responsible for cleaning of ORs between cases, and/or daily terminal cleaning of ORs, CS and PACU using hospital-approved cleaning solutions
- Pick up patient beds from the units.
- Exchange empty oxygen and gas cylinders for full cylinders. Ensure they are properly tagged.
- Sealing and replacing filled sharps and recycling containers.
- Ensure that specimens that need to be incinerated are properly bagged and label the biohazard bag appropriately.
- Keeping all blanket/fluid warmers stocked.
- Notify appropriate staff of found sharps and broken equipment.
- Shall be knowledgeable and abide by Hospital, Human Resources, and departmental policies and procedures. Performs other duties as needed in support of departmental and institutional needs and requirements.TERMINAL CLEANER - In addition to knowledge of above, the terminal cleaner is responsible for:
- Completely remove furniture and equipment from room. Start with the ceiling and work down - involves being up on a ladder to clean the ceiling, tops of walls and high equipment. Proceed down the walls taking care to wipe the top and doors of the stainless steel cabinets. Clean medical gas and vacuum hoses hanging from the ceiling. Clean all cords coming off anesthesia machine. Wipe down the anesthesia machine, taking care not to clean the screen with the wipes. Clean all air vents. Completely disassemble the OR bed and clean each surface. Raise the OR bed to its highest level and clean pedestal. Clean mattresses to OR table and prop up so they will dry. Clean wheels on all equipment. Wash the floor, starting at the far corner and working out towards the door. Be sure to move the anesthesia machine and OR table to clean floor. When the floor has dried, clean all surfaces of each piece of furniture/equipment and return to the room. Wipe down the inside and outside of the OR door. Runs Xenon Robot in each OR and PACU bay.

**INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS**:Medical and Nursing staff, other Hospital departments, and the community.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
Experience/Specialized Skills: Healthcare housekeeping experience preferred.**Required Education/Course(s)/Training**:High School Graduate or equivalent.**Preferred Certification/Registration: None**
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**:
Stand or walk 90% of the work shift. Sometimes required to lift, push, or pull heavy loads. Often need to stand on a ladder to reach high equipment, walls and ceiling.**WORK ENVIRONMENT**:
Occasional exposure to infectious diseases. Work area is well lit and ventilated. May be exposed to a small amount of radiation from x-rays, anesthetic gases, caustic chemicals, and a large amount of blood and its byproducts. May find sharps objects and broken equipment. Hours vary per position.
