Assistant Medical Director

**THE POSITION**:
Are you interested in an administrative and supervisory role that allows you to utilize your education and experience to oversee the medical care and treatment of physically ill inmates? The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is seeking a seasoned physician to serve as our Assistant Medical Director. This position gives you the opportunity to assist the Chief of Clinical Services with overseeing all of the clinical medical care to inmates housed in 25 correctional institutions within the commonwealth. **DESCRIPTION OF WORK**:
As Assistant Medical Director, you will be responsible for providing medical advice and consultation to contracted physicians, nurses, and other professional medical staff. The consultations you will provide include reviewing case histories, staff reports, and inspection of medical services in State Correctional facilities. You will oversee the clinical services provided within the Department of Corrections correctional institutions, which includes medical physicians, physician assistants, certified registered nurse practitioners, and nurses. Additional components of this position include identifying training needs, developing specific training programs, and conducting various education or training sessions. You will have the opportunity to evaluate and provide recommendations regarding medical care provided by contracted physicians and Department of Corrections nurses through the use of the Quality Improvement program, utilization management, and the grievance system.

**Work Schedule and Additional Information**:

- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

**REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY**:
**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Minimum Experience and Training Requirements**:

- Completion of an approved U.S. residency training program in the allopathic or osteopathic medical specialty of family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, or occupational medicine, and five years of post-residency experience in the practice of medicine, including one year in the last three years acting in an administrative or consultative capacity over physicians assigned a direct primary care caseload.

**Special Requirements**:

- This position requires possession of an active license to practice medicine in Pennsylvania issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
- This position requires an active registration to prescribe medication from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
- This position requires board certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties; board certification by the American Osteopathic Board in Family Practice, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, or Occupational Medicine; board certification by the American Board of Emergency Medicine; or board certification by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine as a Certified Medical Director.

**Other Requirements**:

- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
