Sun River Health is looking to hire a full time Certified Housing Counselor to support clients. This position sits in Peekskill, NY. The HUD Certified Housing Counselor is responsible for working with clients one-on-one to coach and motivate them to achieve their goals for housing stability and financial opportunity with money management, credit, rental, home ownership, and foreclosure counseling. This position also conducts financial education and homebuyer education classes. Per HUD guidelines, the Housing Counselor will be responsible for creating action plans, complying with HUD reporting requirements, and maintaining certification. The Housing Counselor will assist The Preservation Company with advocacy within the community and at local events, and develop relationships within the various communities served.

Job Competencies and Responsibilities:

- Meets individually with clients to provide financial coaching and housing counseling, using HUD’s Housing Counseling Rules and Regulations as a guide.
- Performs homebuyer client intake, counseling, and follow-up on spending plan, credit, savings, and home purchase and financing process.
- In accordance with HUD guidelines for Default and Foreclosure Counseling, performs default client intake, counseling, and follow-up on spending plan, credit, and savings.
- Advocate for clients in various housing programs; be aware of various local projects and access points for clients.
- Using HUD certified HomeKeeper client management system, will maintain all records, updating files as needed, and ensure timely reporting.
- Provide clients with necessary education such as budgeting, grocery lists, and list of social services available.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with referral agencies, community leaders and community organizations.
- Assist with designing flyers, education material, and event plans and programs.
- Participate in local fairs, events, and tabling.
- Participate in monthly board meetings; present reports as needed
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education/Experience:
High School diploma or GED is required

Active HUD Certified Housing Counselor certification or in process of obtaining within 6 months is required

Experience with HomeKeeper client management system is preferred

Salary range: $45k-55k
