The Biogeochemical Dynamics Laboratory (BGDL) research focuses on the interactions of the wind and carbon cycle of the Southern Ocean, global climate models, observationally-based data/model metrics, and, a global sampling network able to capture the variability of surface carbon concentration. Understand and predicting the uptake of heat and carbon by the Southern Ocean, as observed and simulated, is the core of our research program. Over the last 25 years, our understanding of the ocean’s role in the global climate of the past and present has seen a dramatic revolution in data-gathering and numerical simulation and prediction.

Prof. Joellen Russell is a Distinguished Professor and head of the Geosciences Department. This position is for a Laboratory Coordinator II to help her maintain her research, teaching and outreach duties while serving as Department Head. Her funded research projects have contributed to the improved observing system and global circulation models of the ocean that have reduced uncertainty in the future trajectory of the heat and carbon balances of the planet: we now know that the ocean has taken up about 93% of the anthropogenic heat imbalance to date - global warming is ocean warming.

**Duties & Responsibilities**

Facilitate and coordinate the day-to-day lab needs and events. Working with Dr Russell to organize and manage weekly lab schedules, meetings and research efforts by undergraduates and lab technicians:

- Organize bi-weekly lab meetings (in person/Zoom).
- Convene monthly planning and evaluation meetings with relevant personnel.
- Organize project teams, keep students, postdocs, colleagues on task according to relevant timeline.
- Coordinate student and inter-lab activities.
- Provide or arrange technical expertise and/or assistance as needed for projects.
- Maintenance of data archive including quality control and data management.
- Maintain Project documents, reference lists (scholarly and Internet).
- Assist with project proposal development, grant planning and submission, and publication preparation.
- Post advertisements/notices for available undergraduate opportunities.
- Help coordinate with human resources to advertise for and hire new students as directed by supervisor. Provide input as needed.
- Assist in recruitment and training of Lab undergraduates.
- Interface with funding agencies, non-local colleagues to ensure project meets relevant timelines.
- Act as point of contact for students and off-site colleagues.
- Work closely with the project management and evaluation team.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree and at least 3 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Certification or Acknowledgement of profession skill or accomplishment
- Experience working in an education institution.
- Experience planning and implementing education curriculum.
- Experience with statistical analysis and spreadsheet software (R, Excel, etc.).
