JOB DESCRIPTION/POSTING: PIANIST: OPEN UNTIL FILLED

The person we hire will be an enthusiastic and positive musician who collaborate with our Choir Director in leading the Chancel Choir and the Contemporary Ensemble at Sunday Services and selected community events.

CUMC has an active and supportive Choir Board made up of volunteer choir members. We also have a Community Orchestra that accompanies on occasion.

POSITION: Salaried Exempt: Part-Time (average 4-6 hours/week); benefits as identified in the Employee Policies and Guidelines handbook; salary range depending on qualifications and experience.

REPORTS TO: Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent piano skills; knowledge of classical piano repertoire; improvisatory skills a plus. Experience with Christian service-playing; ability to play both traditional hymnody and contemporary Christian songs with proficiency and sensitivity; an understanding of the ministry of music.

Excellent accompanying skills; strong reading; ability to occasionally from a lead sheet on contemporary music, when fully realized keyboard scores are not available.

The ability to pay a variety of different musical styles. Ability to accompany soloists and small group during services and special events.

RESPONBILITIES
- 1._ _Primary Accompanist for on Sunday Service at 10:00am_
- 2._ _Accompany the Congregation an Chancel Choir at the 10:00am (Classical/Traditional) Service_
- i._ _Prelude, offertory, postlude. (Prelude & Postlude 3-5 minutes in length)_
- ii._ _Anthem_
- iii._ _3-4 traditional hymns or contemporary songs_
- iv._ _Choral & Congregational responses_
- v._ _Communion music once a month._
- 3._ _Accompany the weekly Chancel Choir Rehearsal on Thursday nights from 7:15pm to 8:45pm. Chancel Choir season runs from September through June. Accompany soloist and small ensembles in July and August for special music in absence of the Chancel Choir._
- 4._ _Accompany soloists and instrumentalists on an occasional basis during the Choir Season. Additional rehearsal time to be arranged at the discretion of the Pianist._
- 5._ _Provide piano and choir accompaniment as well as any extra rehearsals required for additional special services, concerts, choral workshops or other special events at the discretion of the Music Director or the Pastor. Christmas, Carol Sing, Christmas Sunday, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Mandy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Services, weddings, memorial services, community concerts, etc., and rehearsals._
- 6._ _Prepare piano accompaniments in advance of choir rehearsals._
- 7 Provide a substitute pianist when unable to be present; provide substitute with music_
- OTHER_
- Successful completion of a background check prior to and as a continuing condition of employment_
- Be proficient in speaking, writing and understanding English_
- Attend meetings as required_
- Experience with or desire to accompany a community orchestra is preferred, although not required_
