**Job Description**:

- Help build and maintain GenBank, one of the world’s largest publicly available nucleotide sequence databases.
- Evaluate the biological integrity and accuracy of nucleotide sequence submissions and their metadata before they are released into the international public database GenBank.
- Communicate with submitters to resolve issues related to their sequence submissions and perform updates when needed.
- Provide feedback on newly developed user tools (e.g. mRNA pipeline in Submission Portal) and in-house manuals (e.g. Indexing Standard Operating Procedures developed by senior members of the GenBank Curation team).
- Assess the biological integrity of viral metagenomic sequences, their metadata, and link with raw sequence data deposited into NCBI.
- Conduct database and administrative activities related to the maintenance of GenBank and related NCBI Web resources - Other duties as assigned.
- Position eligible for full-time telecommuting.
- May require domestic travel up to 15% of the time.

Job Requirements:
Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Molecular Biology or a closely related field plus five (5) years of laboratory experience in molecular biology.

Experience must include:

- Five (5) years of experience with DNA sequence analysis software and web-based resources.
- Minimum of two (2) years of post-doctoral experience.
- Extensive sequence analysis and laboratory experience in molecular biology.
- Aptitude for using DNA sequence analysis software and web-based resources.
- Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong desire to support publicly available scientific databases such as GenBank.
- A detail-oriented outlook coupled love with a love for puzzle
- and problem-solving.
