**Duties**:
The Directorate for Engineering promotes the progress of engineering in the United States in order to enable the Nation's capacity to perform. ENG invests in research and education that enables discovery and advances fundamental scientific and engineering knowledge.
These Investments aim to build our nation's capacity for innovation that can lead over time to the creation of new shared wealth and a better quality of life. Most NSF programs in engineering are funded through the Directorate for Engineering, which also sponsors the NSF's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The employee in this position will report to a Division Director and will primarily provide support for activities and programs within the division. The position will encompass a wide spectrum of duties in support of the Division's mission including scientific and technical issues influencing policy and process administration.
In addition, the employee will provide scientific and technical support for reports, analyses and presentations regarding the research portfolio of the Division to aid in portfolio assessment and, inform decisions made by division management regarding the technical directions of its research and related activities. These activities will involve day-to day interactions with staff throughout the Division, Directorate, other Directorates, and with other Federal Government research organizations and coordinating groups.
**Major Duties and Responsibilities**

As required;
- Conducts the necessary research to develop one-of-a-kind reports, studies, and analyses on scientific/engineering topics supported by the Division. This may include research activities and discussions that involve staff within the Division, Directorate, across NSF organizations, and with external organizations, both public and private.

Assists in the creation of presentations, including talking points, speeches, or presentation slides. An advanced technical understanding of one or more science and/or engineering disciplines will be required in order to identify pertinent data, judge its relevance and validity, and make critical assessments on programmatic and policy implications for consideration by Division Director, Deputy Division Director, and Program Directors within the division.
- Perform literature analysis and summarize findings of prior impact (scientific and technical, economic, or societal) of a division's portfolio. Work with the Division Director, Deputy Division Director, and Program Directors in the division to compile and present information on program portfolios and outcomes that inform expert assessment of the Divisions/Directorate's program investments. Results of findings may be published and may be used at Advisory Committee meetings, Committees of Visitors meetings, cross-directorate meetings, and other internal and external forums.
- On behalf of the division, participate in other NSF and interagency activities related to assessment and evaluation or programs in science and engineering research and education. This responsibility includes liaisons with, and contributions to, budgetary and reporting groups, as well as other Federal R&D agencies. This includes sharing of best practices on assessment and evaluation results and maintaining awareness of related NSF activities, notably COV processes, statistical reporting, and program activities in science, engineering and technology policy.
- Serve as a point of contact for research result and highlight development for the division. Coordinate the development and submission of research highlights for all programs managed within the division. Work with the Division Director and Deputy Division Director on approval of the division's highlights. An understanding of the breadth of the engineering research programs supported by the division is required. An ability to take scientific concepts and make them understandable to a wide audience is also required.
- Support and provide outreach activities forthe division, particularly to those programs at the intersections of the division's research portfolio.
- Assists the Division Director and Deputy Division Director in the oversight of Committee of Visitor processes, providing guidance to the division and programs on results-oriented activities.
- Draws on knowledge of program portfolios and results to assist in the merit review and award oversight processes as appropriate, particularly for the division's multidisciplinary activities. Serves as the division's interface to OAD/OLPA public relations and press-related activities concerning division's science/engineering programs.
