**SUMMARY**:
Under general supervision of the Division Supervisor, the Streets Maintenance Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of light, medium and heavy equipment, and light to heavy duty trucks. Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties related to construction and maintenance of city streets, alleys, right of ways, public lands, city facilities and other related work as required.

**Supervision**:Reports to: Division Supervisor

Position will not have direct supervision over other staff.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
HS Diploma/GED

**License and Certifications**:
Valid Texas Driver's license.

Class A preferred

Class B is required within 6 months of hire.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned**:
This information is intended to be descriptive of the principle duties and responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.
- Operates vehicles and equipment such as dump trucks, water truck, backhoe, tractor with shredder or auger, lawn tractors, trencher, steel wheel roller, motor grader, chip spreaders, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), weed eaters, trailers, shop tools and various mechanized and non-mechanized hand tools.
- Loads and unloads materials such as dirt, asphalt, gravel, storm drainpipes, and sign materials.
- Performs the cleaning, washing, preventative maintenance and routine servicing of equipment.
- Performs minor repairs on machinery and equipment
- Performs laborer type duties such as racking and sweeping loose gravel, shoveling cold mix
- Performs traffic control tasks for street maintenance operations and various city events
- Waters, mows, repairs, maintains, and cleans (trash pickup) public lands, thoroughfares, and rights-of-way
- Performs minor plumbing maintenance minor painting, carpentry, and masonry work.
- Assists in inspection and preventive maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Responsible for the cleaning, washing, preventive maintenance, repairs, and routine servicing of all equipment.
- May perform traffic control tasks for street maintenance operations and various city events.
- Must be available to work overtime, available for call out after hours and weekends including holidays.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Knowledge in the mechanical operation of light equipment, common tools, materials, and methods used in maintenance and construction work.
- Knowledge of landscaping equipment.
- Knowledge and understanding of safety precautions while working in and around traffic.
- Skilled in making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and tools.
- Skilled in transporting equipment and tools to work sites.
- Skilled in safely lifting, pulling, and pushing materials and equipment.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time while working on/or around hot asphalt.
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.

**Disaster Service Workers Clause**

Always in the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees’ normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.

Pay: $18.72 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
