**MATERNAL HEALTH SPECIALIST**

**CLASSIFICATIONS**:Full-Time, 35 HOURS/WEEK

The Maternal Health Specialist should have understanding of maternal health issues and be passionate about improving the health outcomes of mothers and babies. This position requires someone who can provide expert care, counseling, and support throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum periods.

**Reports to**: Senior Manager of Community Based Programs or a designated Senior Manager.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Providing individual counseling and health education to clients at their appointment regarding a range of public health topics, with a focus on maternal health: contraception, prenatal health, birth, postpartum, infant feeding, newborn care, perinatal mental health and wellness, nutrition, vaccinations, emergency preparedness
- Connecting maternal health clients to vital community-based resources, programs, social services and community organizations
- Community outreach to recruit clients for maternal health services such as workshops and support groups
- Conducting intakes with new clients to determine health and social service needs
- Monitoring referrals to ensure that they are scheduled promptly and appropriately and conducting follow-up calls to ensure that they were completed
- Outreaching to clients after delivery to schedule newborn and postpartum visits
- Collecting demographic and program evaluation data and uploading into an online data hub
- Promoting health education initiatives via press releases, media campaigns, social media platforms, and websites
- Identifying strategic partnerships with organizations and stakeholders that promote health education
- Documenting activities, recording information, and maintaining databases, as well as overseeing health education program staff and volunteers
- Providing staff, community agencies, and organizations with access to health education resources

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Ability and desire to work in maternal and child health
- Familiarity with the community
- A commitment to improving health equity
- Excellent communication and networking skills
- Good public speaking and facilitation skills
- will be expected to co-facilitate groups
- Exceptional ability to achieve sustainable health education program results
- Ability to integrate into a fast-paced work environment with varying responsibilities each day
- Ability to work independently on tasks, take initiative, and be self-motivated
- Capacity to work collaboratively and communicate frequently with other team members
- Exceptional time management and organization skills
- Computer literacy (internet navigation, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Certified Lactation Counseling Certification
- Doula training preferred
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) technology or data management systems preferred

**Compensation**:
**$50,000-$55,000**

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
