Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement (IA), the Associate Vice President (AVP), Emerson College Alumni Association oversees strategy and implementation of a comprehensive alumni engagement program designed to provide meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, professional development, and events, all in support of the College's engagement and fundraising goals and objectives. The AVP serves as an on and off-campus spokesperson for the more than 52,000 living alumni across the globe, and leads efforts to create and foster strong connections among Emersonians by engaging them in the life of the College connecting them with current students, and providing them with avenues for connection to each other. The AVP will work with alumni volunteers and leadership across the College to conceive of and implement educational programming for alumni, and design career services opportunities for recent graduates. The AVP will also provide vision, leadership and supervision to staff responsible for executing the Emerson College Alumni Association strategic plan in alignment with the College's strategic plan. The AVP will work closely with the VP to identify near
- and long-term priorities for alumni engagement to support overall Institutional Advancement objectives and goals.

**ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES**
- Leads and oversees the Office of Alumni Engagement, the Emerson Alumni Association board of directors and its committees, alumni volunteers, and other partners and committees to plan and execute the vision and strategy of the College related to engagement for alumni.
- Leads and actively participates in events where alumni are present as the head of the Emerson Alumni Association.
- Builds and oversees execution of an effective volunteer program that supports the objective of engaging alumni in meaningful volunteer opportunities and serving as a source for alumni talent and resources for students, faculty, and staff.
- Brings issues to the attention of the vice president and ensures that they are considered, appropriate action is taken, and the results are communicated appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Utilizes data to make informed, strategic decisions and resource investments.
- Develops and manages annual budgets.
- Designs, implements, and oversees creative opportunities for alumni to engage in the life of the college through exceptional customer service, a comprehensive volunteer program, personal and professional development, and events.
- Creates and executes plans and activities for alumni affinity groups (academic, special interest, professional affiliations, etc.), identifies and cultivates volunteer leadership, develops strategies for the success of each group, identifies and pursues measurable objectives, and supports their events and activities.
- Oversees the Alumni Association Travel Program, and identifies and launches programs providing a benefit or service to the alumni community.
- Leads and supervises the Alumni Engagement staff team, providing vision, strategy, management, advice, support, and guidance of day-to-day operations.
- Collaborates strategically and synergistically with the Advancement Communications and Special Initiatives team to establish and maintain an annual schedule of special events, publications, and social media presence and other outreach directed at increasing alumni involvement with the College and enhancing brand reputation.
- Partners with the AVP of Advancement Communications and Special Initiatives and the Alumni Board to oversee the selection and distribution of various alumni association awards that recognize outstanding alumni achievements.
- Acts as a strategic partner with the AVP of Development, as necessary, for major and principal gift cultivation.
- Works with the Director of Advancement Services to develop a system across IA for alumni records maintenance, ensuring records are current and engagement activity is recorded regularly.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships and programs with College units, including Admissions, Career Services, Parent and Family Programs, Athletics, Student Affairs, and academic colleges and departments.
- Maintain a leadership style that is open, fluid, and empowers staff through active communication and delegation, placing their work within the context of Institutional Advancement's strategic priorities and Emerson's overarching goals. Celebrate current achievements and set clear expectations for future success. Contributes to the overall success of Institutional Advancement by working on special projects and performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President.
