**_Animal Care Attendant_**

The position requires applicants to be available for shift work, which may include working days, nights, weekend and/or holidays. The individual selected for this position will be considered an “Essential Employee.” Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.

**The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center** (MCASAC), operated by the Office of Animal Services, provides high-standard sheltering and care to the homeless, abused, and neglected animals in our community and ensures the safety and welfare of the county's citizens. We are the county's only open-admissions, municipal shelter.

The Office of Animal Services is seeking to fill an **_Animal Care Attendant_** position that will be responsible for assuring all animals’ nutrition, housing and basic medical needs are met daily at the Animal Services and Adoption Center. This is full performance level front line animal service work providing humane and proper care and handling of shelter animals. **_Animal Care Attendants_** will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

- Maintaining and thoroughly cleaning kennels, cages, and other common areas
- Preparing and providing food and water to animals
- Gathering, laundering, and replacing soiled pet bedding
- Operate power cleaning equipment
- Washing, sanitizing, and disinfecting areas and equipment with the proper use of chemicals and cleaning products
- Assisting customers interested in adopting and responding to their questions
- Monitoring sick, quarantines and injured animals and observing them for unusual physical and behavioral conditions, and administer proper medication
- Administering medications as dispensed by a veterinarian
- Maintain accurate health, behavioral, and medication logs
- Handle animals of all sizes and temperaments, including those who may be ill or dangerous/aggressive
- Participating in the humane euthanasia process
- Socializing, conducting enrichment activities, and exercising shelter animals
- Lift materials and animals weighing 20-100lbs or more
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned

**Schedule**:This position may work evenings and will work weekends. Applicants must be able to work any of the following shifts, which will be assigned at the time of hire:

- 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., working four ten-hour shifts (at least one weekend day worked)
- 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., working five eight-hour shifts (at least one weekend day worked)
- 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., working four ten-hour shifts (at least one weekend day worked)
- 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., working four ten-hour shifts (both weekend days worked)

**Note**: Selected individual will be required to work with animals of all species and breeds that enter the shelter, and complete euthanasia training and perform humane euthanasia procedures. Animal Care Attendants are exposed to hazardous conditions, such as working with animals that could be ill, aggressive, injured, or rabid, requiring the use of special equipment and/or adherence to special precautions.

***The anticipated salary range for this position is **$48,317** - **$61,478**

**Minimum Qualifications**

**Experience**:None.

**Education**:Graduation from high school or High School Certificate completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

**License**: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.

- 4. Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers.
