**Special Information**
- This position is posted as **Public Safety Communications Manager**, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is **Manager, Police**.
- This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

Customer Service - 25%
- Provides professional, service-oriented assistance to a variety of customers to include NAU community members, criminal justice agencies, the public at large and NAUPD co-workers.
- Utilizes the teamwork concept in daily interactions.
- Responds to all requests for information or assistance in a positive, courteous manner, and provides information within the scope of authority and/or refers to the appropriate source.

Collaborative Problem Solving - 25%
- Identifies issues and/or concerns that are affecting the University community with an emphasis on issues within control of communications.
- Works in partnership with the University community, public, criminal justice agencies, and other users to effectively resolve the identified issues and/or concerns.
- Work collaboratively with the community, public, and private organizations, and Department members to resolve issues.

Dispatching and Supervising Dispatchers - 25%
- Supervise, assign, review the work of dispatchers who receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Operate as a dispatcher when shift coverage is needed.
- Monitor phone and radio traffic to ensure procedural compliance.
- Review case information entered into the computer system.
- Assess employees' compliance with procedure.
- Assist in development of employee skills and abilities by providing constructive criticism, recognition, and corrective action when necessary.
- Conduct quality assurance feedback and coaching sessions with assigned employees at regular intervals.
- Provide both verbal and written feedback involving the discipline process.
- Initiates commendations where appropriate.

Hire and Train Personnel - 10%
- Administer the NAU and NAUPD hiring and background process for new dispatchers.
- Supervise Communications Training Officer (CTO) program for new dispatch center personnel.
- Conduct ongoing trainings and exercises with employees to maintain and demonstrate proficiency on requisite skills.
- Review data which outlines center and employee performance; adjust schedules as necessary to achieve performance goals.
- Stay current with national/standardized best practices through professional association memberships and professional development opportunities.

Compliance and Reporting - 10%
- Assures compliance of the Emergency Communications Center with CJIS-related policies and procedures.
- Prepare and complete analytical and statistical reports and memos as required for CJIS, CLERY and CALEA/ALEAP compliance and reporting purposes.

Other - 5%
- Other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Management Information Systems (MIS) or a related field emphasizing written and oral communication; AND
- 4 years of increasingly responsible experience as a public safety (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.) dispatcher that includes at least one year of formal supervisory experience in public safety (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.): OR
- Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Level “A” ACJIS Terminal Operator certification or ability to obtain within six months.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Dispatcher experience that includes multiple years of formal supervisory experience in public safety (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.).
- Completion of a supervisory training course and/or Certified Public Manager.
- Experience in a college or university public safety setting.

**Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities**
- Administrative skills, including data analysis and accurate reporting of data and information in an unbiased manner; and the ability to analyze situations objectively and determine proper courses of action to be taken.
- Knowledge of research techniques, statistical gathering and analysis; the ability to gather, organize, evaluate, and analyze data; and the ability to prepare reports, proposals, plans and recommendations.
- Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of an emergency communications or dispatch program.
- Skilled in the effective operation of modern office and computer equipment and various software packages, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and NCIC and ACJIS related programs and equipment.
