South Bend, United States City of South Bend Full time

The South Bend Police Department Cadet Program is a non-sworn 4 year program. Cadets perform various non-sworn Law Enforcement station/field duties including but not limited to equipment operation, report writing, administrative, communication, and other duties as assigned by the Training Bureau.

Cadets will be assigned in rotating areas of the department. During the school year they are required to work 20 hours a week and 40 hours a week during the summer break. Work hours and days of the week will vary.

Cadets will receive an hourly rate. The pay will be $12.00 per hour. Cadets will receive paid tuition (up to $3,500.00 per semester). This is in the form of a loan. Cadets will be eligible for a bonus of $250.00 per semester if the Cadet’s GPA is 3.5 or higher.

If a Cadet does not maintain a 2.0 GPA, is asked to leave the program, or does not successfully become a sworn member of the South Bend Police Department for a period of 3 years, that Cadet will be required to pay the tuition money back to the City of South Bend. This tuition will be written off by the city. In the event the Cadet does not complete repayment by the time required, from that date forward interest will accrue and be due in the maximum amount authorized by Title 24 of the Indiana Code.
