The Associate Director of Development is a skilled fundraising professional with in-depth understanding of the field, who independently performs the full range of responsibilities of a university development officer, analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope, and determines solutions. Using advanced fundraising concepts, plans, organizes, and directs fundraising campaigns which include multiple components. The results of the incumbent’s efforts have major impact on overall program goals and assignments and are typically at the “major gifts" level, including building and managing a well-documented and active portfolio of individuals, planned gifts, corporations, and foundations, and focusses on donors capable of giving $50K or more.

This position plans, schedules, and implements comprehensive fundraising projects and programs, including [insert specific programs related to unit/position]. This position is metric-driven and expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established by the [insert unit] and aligned with the assigned portfolio. This is a fundraising position focused on the stewarding existing and new donor relationships. Guided by a “donor centered” approach, the incumbent will strategically solicit gifts using various communication methods, including in person, video, texting, phone, social media and virtual visits. This position requires good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, and works independently, collaboratively, and collegially as part of a diverse, matrix organization.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skilled professional frontline fundraising experience, as demonstrated by 2 or more years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience; or equivalent transferrable professional experience including strategic relationship development and portfolio management; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Professional knowledge of and experience with development and fundraising techniques, including prospect identification research, evaluation of historic gift data, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship. Experience in major gifts prospect portfolio management as a frontline fundraiser, including knowledge of proven cultivation/solicitation techniques for gifts at all dollar levels with identified success in major gift ($50K+) fundraising.
- Demonstrated success soliciting and securing significant philanthropic gifts, ideally in the planned giving space. Successful track record developing strategic relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Expert political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies, including donors and prospects, as well as their legal and financial advisors, in order to develop collaborative working relationships needed to accomplish organizational goals.
- Related experience conceiving, writing and editing fundraising presentations, case statements, proposals and grants for corporations, foundations and individuals for support of program priorities. Experience with planned giving programs is a plus. Expert written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Skilled in organizing and managing both time and workload. Ability to independently support multiple fundraising activities and initiatives essential.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience in developing strategic relationships with individual donors and prospective donors, foundations, and other philanthropic organizations. Skills to work effectively with donors and prospects, as well as their legal and financial advisors.
- Progressively responsible professional experience as a development professional in a planned giving program in a university setting and/or higher education experience in an academic health system.
- Knowledge and understanding of complex university/health care group structure in order to effectively coordinate with faculty, directors, leadership, and development colleagues regarding philanthropic support.

**Department Overview**

The Planned Giving team assists with administration of life-income gifts including charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities. Responsibilities include working with UC Office of the President, UC Davis Foundation, BNY Mellon and State Street Global Advisors to ensure timely distributions, filing of trust tax returns, distribution of tax statements to beneficiaries, and calculation of subsequent year's payments for unitrusts.

The team builds and maintains relationships with professional advisors such as, attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors in order to encourage gifts to UC Davis. Assist donors in incorporating approp
