Substance Abuse Counselor

**Job Summary**
- Provides supports Substance Abuse treatment by working collaboratively within the Interdisciplinary Team and contributes to the recovery of mental health treatment plan.

**General Accountabilities**
- Models’ effective interpersonal communication within all departments fostering a space where clients and staff are comfortable and confident in reaching out when needed.
- Observes and monitors clients withdrawing from alcohol; may administer first aid or send clients to the hospital for further treatment as required.
- Provide direct substance use treatment to clients as the primary counselor.
- Facilitate group and individual substance use treatment and recovery services.
- Observes and evaluates behavior and needs of groups and individuals; communicates information appropriately to the team.
- Document comprehensive clinical records according to the standard of NPCRS.
- Collaborate with the discharge planner, case managers, and community agencies to coordinate continuity of care.
- Observes and documents residents' behaviors to participate in the development of treatment goals with the interdisciplinary team.
- Completes non-clinical intake forms during admissions, logs in all individual property, and follow all admission procedures.
- Assists clients in daily living activities and trains clients in self-care practices.
- Converses with clients to promote social interaction and therapeutic treatment experience
- Attends routine health care needs of clients under supervision of medical personnel and reports client status change to Administrator as needed
- Assists clients in taking medication as prescribed
- Accompanies clients on off-ground trips for approved appointments
- Follows facility safety guidelines including proper lifting technique and Universal Precautions.
- Ensuring copays are being collected from clients during the admissions process
- Auditing client charts
- Taking inventory for facility items bi-weekly
- Daily facility safety walks through
- Working to solve problems on the floor collaboratively with the team or independently as necessary
- Must implement program goals and objectives to meet and maintain contractual requirements and productivity.
- Participates in in-service training; attends staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Job Qualifications**
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Alcohol and Drug Certification in good standing by an agency approved and recognized by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) **is required at time of hire**:

- Bachelor of Arts degree or Bachelor of Science degree in related fields preferred but not required. Consideration of equivalent experience in Counseling/Residential setting.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize 12 Step Recovery concepts of AA/NA.
- Active Certification or Registration with CCAPP, CAADE, etc. Under CA.
- Certifications: Basic First Aid & CPR, Clear California, and Federal background checks.
- A valid California driver’s license with less than two minor moving violations is required of staff who have driving duties to meet the requirement of their position and be approved by the agency’s insurance company.
- Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.

- Sunday - Thursday 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- Tuesday - Saturday 11: 00 PM - 7:30 AM
