**About the Opportunity**:

- **THE POSITION**- Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Mid-Management/Supervisory bargaining unit for labor relations purposes.

Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.**Typical Tasks**:

- Lead safety training for all employees;
- Address any workplace-related health issues and accidents;
- Run emergency drills to gauge employee readiness;
- Process workers compensation recordkeeping and reporting requirements;
- Design, maintain, and measure safety standards in the workplace;
- Conduct safety inspections on a routine basis;
- Maintain key control and proximity card access;
- Inspect working conditions to ensure all staff activities, materials, and equipment are compliant with safety guidelines;
- Advise staff on the use of dangerous chemicals and machinery;
- Conduct ergonomic evaluations;
- Order safety gear and supplies for the workplace;
- Work with Risk Management department to address any health and safety-related initiatives and concerns;
- Participate in writing and revising HSA safety-related policies and procedures;
- Maintain and facilitate compliance and regulatory requirements;
- Fit testing;
- Safety specific monthly newsletters; and
- Stay updated on new/changed state and federal health and safety regulations.

**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE**

**PATTERN I**
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or closely related field.

**PATTERN II**
- Associate's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or closely related field; **AND**:

- Two (2) years of experience and training in human resources or safety assignments involving health and/or safety to have acquired the abilities and knowledge.
- **Progressively responsible experience in a related area may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.**

**DESIREABLE QUALFICATIONS**
- OSHA Certification; **OR**:

- One (1) year of experience with public speaking; **AND**:

- Six (6) months of work experience working in Stanislaus County performing duties comparable to the typical tasks described above.

**GENERAL INFORMATION**
