**JOB SUMMARY**

In the role of Medical Assistant, records vital signs, gathers patient medical history, prepares exam room and prepares patients for examination, provides condition-specific patient education, as well as care coordination, under the guidance of the provider. In the role of Medical Scribe, documents the physician-dictated patient history, physical examination, family, social, and past medical history, procedures, lab results, and any other information pertaining to the patient’s encounter in the clinical medical setting. In the role of Patient Services Specialist, schedules, receives, and checks out patients within the Cardiovascular Associates of Victoria practice accurately and promptly.

**Job Specific**

**Medical Assistant Role**:

- Provides safe and effective patient care in the clinical setting. (EF)
- Prepares treatment room for patient examination; verifies treatment of correct patient. (EF)
- Interviews patients, obtains vital signs, such as pulse, blood pressure, temperature, height and weight, and documents information in the patient’s chart. (EF)
- Triages patient phone calls, consults with provider as appropriate, responds promptly to patient questions and calls patients with test results. (EF)
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with mínimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. (EF)
- Provides condition-specific patient education, as well as care coordination, under the guidance of the provider. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs. (EF)
- Conducts inventories and orders medical supplies. Keeps all areas stocked and neat in appearance. (EF)
- Performs EKGs with precision and accuracy. (EF)
- Completes all documentation associated with daily responsibilities promptly and accurately. (EF)
- Ensures prior-authorizations are in place when applicable to patient’s visit and/or testing.

**Hospital**:

- Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
- Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
- Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
- Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Minimum Requirements

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:

- High school education or GED
- Healthcare Provider CPR
- Superb telephone etiquette, excellent customer service skills, consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate commitment to superior customer service with each internal and external customer

**PREFERRED**:

- Current Certification as Medical Assistant and/or Medical Scribe
- Additional education and/or training specific to the care of cardiac patients
- At least one year of experience in the healthcare field
- Familiar with medical terminology
