**Duties**:

- Coordinates the management of wildland fires with the response agency and cooperating agencies on single and multi-jurisdictional wildland fires.
- Ensures that the fire management program complies with environmental laws, regulations, and policy.
- Directs and supervises all phases of the budget formulation and execution process and initiates changes as appropriate.
- Ensures the fuels management program is consistent with ecosystem management principles and land use plans.
- Establishes priorities for fire hazard reduction, prescribed burns, and fuels management based on minimizing potential damage and maximizing multiple resource benefits and enhancement.
- Supervises, directs and coordinates subordinate staff.
- Collaborates with park unit leadership while also serving on and representing the units and NPS on various interagency teams, and work groups dealing with specific local, geographic, or national fire management issues.
- Coordinates unit and group programs with various other federal, state, and local agencies.
- Develops, implements, and administers agreements, operating plans, and memorandums of understanding with local government, state, tribal, and federal agencies to develop strong internal and external working relationships.
- Works with a variety of complex technical problems relating to fire weather, smoke management, fire behavior, and computer fire modeling.
- Prior to appointment, you must be determined physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties; and also pass a medical examination (which includes vision, hearing, cardiovascular, and mobility of extremities) given by an authorized government physician. You will also be required to undergo periodic medical examinations throughout employment.
- The Work Capacity Test (WCT-Pack Test) as a method for assessing an employee's fitness levels for fire qualifications in the positions covered by this recruitment notice. Arduous fitness (WCT-Pack Test) will consist of completing a three-mile hike, within 45 minutes, while carrying a 45 pound pack. **NOTE**: Arduous Work Capacity Test

- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Prior to appointment, you must be determined physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties; and also pass a medical examination (which includes vision, hearing, cardiovascular, and mobility of extremities) given by an authorized government physician. You will also be required to undergo periodic medical examinations throughout employment.
- The Work Capacity Test (WCT-Pack Test) as a method for assessing an employee's fitness levels for fire qualifications in the positions covered by this recruitment notice. Employees required to pass a WCT-Pack Test as a "condition of employment"
- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
- Work may require travel by fixed-wing or rotorwing aircraft.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- **Completion of NWCG course M-581, Fire Program Management within one year of entrance on duty.**

**Qualifications**:
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement 05/14/2024, unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience.
