**Cafe Associate**

**General Description**

This position will be responsible for customer service, handling transactions (cashier), barista (knowledge a plus), food and beverage preparation, cafe general upkeep (dishwashing, cleaning, etc.) and participating in monthly special events with the possibility of hosting your own special like book club or game nights.

**Key Areas of Responsibility**
- **Cashier and additional service(s)**_

♦ Always greet customers with a friendly smile and greeting as they approach the

counter even if they are not yet ready to order, simply to acknowledge that you are

ready to answer questions and take their order when they are ready.

Upselling is extremely important so you must be comfortable in the area of upselling.

♦ Collect cash, and credit card payments from customers.

♦ Issue receipts to customers.

♦ Maintain cash control over register drawer and verify amounts are correct.

♦ Answer customer questions as they arise.

♦ Check all displays for cleanliness and organization.

♦ Never leave the cash drawer open unattended.

♦ If you cannot get to a customer right away always mention to them that you will be

right with them as soon as possible.

♦ Utilize opening and closing checklist(s)

♦ Always ensure the customer has adequate napkins and utensils as needed.

♦ Clean and bus tables as needed.

♦ Periodically check bathrooms for cleanliness.

♦ Crumb couches and chairs.

♦ Ensure overall cleanliness of the cafe.

♦ Assists in food preparation and any other duties set forth or requested by

management as needed.

♦ The ability to lift and maintain up to 75lbs.
- **Coffee and beverage preparation**_

♦ Keep counters free of grounds and spills at all times.

♦ Always empty group/espresso handles immediately after making drinks in

preparation for the next order and place back onto the machine to stay warm.

♦ Check all supplies to be full and ready (especially dairy).

♦ Make eye contact with customers as you put up their drinks.

♦ Place drinks on the counter for pick up rather than handing them to

customers, to avoid spills and possible burns.

♦ Remember cup sleeves and lids.

♦ Never leave dirty towels in customer view and change dirty rags for clean

ones regularly.

♦ Always keep one wet towel on top left of machine for steam wand wiping

only. Wipe steam wand immediately after each use.

♦ Be ready to make drinks per customer’s requests (dry, lots of foam, wet, extra

hot etc.).

Food Preparation with accuracy and speed. Very simple menu.

♦ Properly washes and sorts soiled dishes.

♦ Keeps dish area free of clutter and organized.

♦ Sets up dish stations, including dish machines and sinks.

♦ Maintains clean / dry floors throughout the shift.

♦ Properly washes, stacks, and stores glassware, silverware, cookware, and storage

containers.

♦ Maintains trash cans throughout shift and removes full trash cans and boxes at the

end of each shift.

♦ Maintains the dry storage area and the organization of storage shelves.

♦ Follows daily cleaning duties as assigned.
