This recruitment will generate an Eligible List to fill current and future vacancies for the Librarian I substitute at Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL).

**General Position Summary**:
Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) is looking for welcoming and responsive substitute Librarians (Librarian I) that enjoy helping people, interact with customers, share MCPL's resources, and will take pride in providing excellent customer service. You will work in a diverse environment with children, teens, adults, seniors, and people with disabilities, and will help our customers determine the nature of assistance needed. The assistance you will provide includes but not limited to: helping customers learn how to use MCPL's reference tools, e-reader and e-devices and electronic devices.

Service can be provided in the stacks with or without an electronic device or at an information point within the branch. Service may be provided in person, by telephone, electronically or by social media. These require knowledge of library and community resources and reference services in electronic and print media.

Library hours of operation are Sunday through Saturday including nights. Substitute positions are assigned as needed to any of the 21 branch libraries in MCPL.

**Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities**:
Greet and assist customers at service points to ensure a welcoming library environment for MCPL communities. Communicate with customers to provide guidance with accessing MCPL resources, and make recommendations to help them explore, create, and resolve inquiries. Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for this position will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for interview.

**Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following**:

- Experience providing direct customer service to customers of all ages.
- Experience instructing customers in the use of Library services through, reference, electronic and reader's advisory services.
- Experience utilizing the Public Access Catalog and electronic online databases to locate material, place holds, and search indices.
- Experience using library or similar apps and/or online resources to provide information and resolve customer inquiries.
